WIP - 3 women

hi all.

I'm working at this painting with a African motive, its 40 x 40 canvas and acrylic.

I would like advice / c& c. I'm very unsure if the background is to clear and shoud maybe go more back ? But if - how to do it ???

Alos, the shirt what color ? I was thinking of one yellow, but maybe its will come to much forward then ?? the other one green maybe or purple.

All input to help me move on will be so nice

Re: WIP - 3 women

I have to apologize I'm not getting the background maybe needing to go back, but I'm assuming you mean adding more depth?...Personally I think I would follow the norm of most skies..it's always much lighter towards the horizon line and darker as it goes up. Here just a bit more color towards the top would I think add some of what you are looking for.

The shirts, again just personally I do not think I would choose yellow only because there is so much of that family already there, perhaps a complimentary color, purple or an aqua (blue-green) and I really don't think either or both of those colors would come to forward, just my thinking tho.

Nicely done so far!

Elaine

hi Noodle.

Depth, yes that was the word

Nothing is painting "realistic" is normal for me, I have just recently changed from abstracts...LOL

So advice taken, thank you so much.

I wonder if adding a more graphic element like bold outlines might boost some of the forms. I do think the sky could be a bit more vibrant. Maybe taking it to a more abstract level. Just some random thoughts.

Well, thanks for the input - but I'm not really keen to make bold outlines, it will look cartoonish I think, and that was not what I had in mind. I'll try to add
more white to the sky at the horisont.

Re: WIP - 3 women

I was going to say add some shading to the yellow grass to give it some depth, but you beat me too it!

Looks much better!!
