I often randomly paint A3 sheets of paper with inks, fluid acrylics, handmade stamps with gesso, etc., mainly for use as folded artists’ books or book covers. Yellow is not really a favourite colour of mine, but I quite liked this result and decided to try it out as the background for a painting.
Maybe the pink dots are a bit obtrusive, but I will try the idea out with a different colour background next time.
Observations welcome.

February 19, 2018 at 4:46 pm #568192Thanks ColdPress and Viv. The subject was drawn with watercolour pencil, then I used thinned fluid acrylics to glaze blue over the background and to add the red/orange to the roses.
February 20, 2018 at 10:02 am #568191Out of sight floral with the underlying underpainting that gives this a beautiful boost! The pink dots add to its mystery. I’ve used this approach before and really love its surprise results. Looks like negative painting done on the leaves. Gorgeous gem of a painting!!! I hope you’ll cross post it in Florals/Botanical forum so they can appreciate it.

I like how the roses make the background elements look better, take that random repetitive pattern and make it flow well around the roses. Love the colors on them. Interesting combination of mediums too.
