race to the finish and not knowing when to stop

i tried this painting..and in my head..i can do great things but this doesnt work out when i put paint on a brush. i ended up messing about and the picture changed about 30 times..trying to do it loose..and then evenetually i did some impasto...and then messed it up...and eventually i just decided to stop..and just tell people i intended to do it that way lol.

does anyone else have the same problem...with overworking..and messing up when i should have just stopped?

and impasto

Yup! Many times. Overworked faces particularly. Just varnished one and wish I had tweaked it yet again.

Love the movement and loose style of these works. Definitely like the drama and forcefulness in the second one as the grass is less dominant. Lots of impact in both.

i know..Margaretta, i ended up just varnishing it..and then you see every mistake. i am going to try this painting again from afresh. i ended up learning a lot from it..and there are certain elements that i am happy with and will use on subsequent.

i had never used a palette knife before on the second one..and while its fun..it certainly takes a wee bit of practice

I soooo don't know when to stop...and usually rely on others to tell me! Amazing what we can learn tho' by doing it again!!

I think you are in the majority when it comes to not knowing when to stop Brenda. Join the club!!! Great sense of movement in this one. I think you stopped just in time.
