Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs

This is my pre assignment drawing. It's actually just a random page from my sketchbook as I had spent a few hours completing the first 101 basic class before I found this page (rushing into things too quickly!)

This is was just a few quick studies of my dog sleeping for a larger painting I'm working on.

Thank you for posting your pre-class assignment .
I didn't see you do it on the other pictures, but just in case: make sure you point your camera/cell phone straight to the paper. Otherwise you get a distortion that makes it impossible to give meaningful comments.

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs

Ahoy!

As mentioned in the New Here section, I am a sea captain with an interest in improving my drawing skills. I've been more of a cartoonist/doodler all my life and am now interested in drawing things as I see them.

I do a lot of traveling for work and I recently discovered the Urban Sketching movement, which speaks to me.

Going through these classes should be a great way to get some feedback and I am looking forward to it.

This is my second post so I'll resize and post some pictures next!

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs

I'm Mike (just so there's no confusion between my screen name and my real name ). I have a creative bent, but I'm always in too big a hurry to do it right, so I'm going to work through these drawing classes in order to improve (not hard to do) my painting. Despite drawing, off and on, for many years, I am still a beginner because it has been mostly off. Now that I am retired I want to make or take the time necessary to become an artist.

The drawing I've posted was completed in mid April of this year in a Canson Universal Sketch notebook, 5.5" x 8.5" (13,9 x 21,6 cm) that I've begun using. I have a small set of different hardness pencils, a this one was done with a 2H and a 4B. there are a couple notes scribbled on the page. the subject is my Akorn Kamado style grill.

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs

Hi everyone!

I'm Amanda. I'm 34 and wanting to pick up drawing again after over a decade of not doing much of anything artistic. I'm an avid journal keeper and I'd like to eventually feel comfortable illustrating my journal with sketches. I'm inspired by the work of Danny Gregory, Roz Stendahl, Dan Price, France Belleville-Van Stone, Tommy Kane, and Clare Walker Leslie among others.

Here's my pre-class drawing (as an attachment - I couldn't get the image to insert into the body of this post for some reason). I used this photo of earthenware jars from the reference library as my reference.

Can't wait to dive into class!
