New Portrait (WIP)

I had a chance to paint this week! This is a WIP. C&C welcomed 😊. I wonder if I should change the dress to red...? Maybe emerald green...

Re: New Portrait (WIP)

Really nice profile. Very atmospheric and beautiful. I vote the dress stays the same color so you don't look at it first but the face... My 2 cents only!!

I like this portrait, the pose, the colors, etc. And, NO, don't change the color of the dress.

It's a lovely portrait Michael . . . .and I'm with them . The dress colour fits nicely with the background and the facial shadows at the moment. You don't want it to steal the show.

Re: New Portrait (WIP)

Ok, I'd like to call this finished 😊. But I'm open to C&C. 😊. This is a 9" x 12" pastel /pastel pencil on watercolor paper, another portrait of my wife - "Ana"

Re: New Portrait (WIP)

This is a lovely portrait of a lovely lady! I am glad you left the dress color alone, as I agree that it would have drawn the viewer's eye away from the main subject. Her pose and expression are what's important.

Your talent is obvious. I hope she likes it, too!

Re: New Portrait (WIP)

Great work. If I would change anything, I would darken the background next to her face, so she will be the main view of the composition.

Re: New Portrait (WIP)

Thank you, Moises!

Yes, I see what you mean. I had wrestled with that - and wondered if I could get away with the fact that the model was standing right next to a window.. Of course, the viewer doesn't see that.. and an artistic decision was to be made. I ended up erring on the side of depicting the strong side light.. hmm.. ok. Thanks for that critique, Moises 😊
