My Walking Companion

Carved entirely by hand (with the exception of the mouth and area around the glass eyes, dremel used there), from a single piece of re-claimed Red Oak. The scales were burned in using three hand crafted burning tools and the piece was stained with two oak shades. The fangs had to be carved seperate and imbeded into the upper jaw as I broke the first attempt to make them while forming the mouth. The monogram was hand painted with acrylic and I finished it with three coats of polyurithane (please forgive a novice carver for that.)

Re: My Walking Companion

Very nicely done, Stan. I've done some smaller figure/caricature carvings but nothing like this. Good job!

Re: My Walking Companion

SparrowHawk7 just wanted the thank you for taking a peek and say I enjoyed every second I spent carving it, except for when I broke the original fangs. I've been to your webpage and was amazed at your woodwork, you as I love the detail.

Novice carver? I think it looks great, nothing novice about it.

Re: My Walking Companion

Beautiful work! And for a "novice" carver? Outstanding! Thanks for sharing!
