Re: Mandatory Winter Creek

Great variety in textures that you achieve with 'just' a pen. Well done.

Only the left upper corner doesn't look as finished as the rest, as if you've drawn just the outlines there. Could be the scan/my computer screen, though.

Greetings,
Tonia

Re: Mandatory Winter Creek

Hi Tonia,

Yeah, I'm in what I call a value squeeze on that back wall. The image is in a canyon, sun is illuminating the back wall and trees. The foreground/midground is in shadow, but the trees have frosty branches (which makes them lighter).

It's something to think on, and thanks for bringing it forward. At this point, I don't want to resort to color or wash. Perhaps I'll dilute the ink, or use some really fine lines. ...or perhaps some stippling. The form of the back wall is suffering.

All the best,
Terry

Re: Mandatory Winter Creek

I really like the variety of patterns depicting the individual elements here ... makes a very interesting interpretation.

I understand Tania's point about those far cliffs, but I feel that to add more in tone or texture would bring it foreword too much! A dilemma!

Re: Mandatory Winter Creek

Sounds like subtle stippling is the solution.

Re: Mandatory Winter Creek

Yes! It looks finished now. I hope you prefer your drawing as it is now, too, for that is what counts most, of course.

Re: Mandatory Winter Creek

I love this piece of art. Great style and balance. While I like the first drawing I agree the second is slightly better. Good work.
