Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

This is a test. I'm back after 5 years away, trying to figure out if I can participate now that I no longer have the use of my computer.

So I'm going to try uploading a NASA image (which is cooyright legal to do) from my iPad, and see what happens.

.
.
.
Yeah, this will be embarrassingly big for most sketches or paintings I would want to post.

Frustrating

I know that apps have been mentioned. Because of safety concerns, I do not use any apps except those it shipped with.

If anyone knows a secret way to resize images on the iPad without adding new apps, please let me know.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

There are resizing apps for the ipad. It's a long time since I used them but take a look at iresizer an Simply resize.

I'm not sure if the online resizer in my signature link works on the ipad.

Your pictures must fit in an 800 pixel square box.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

Thanks for answering so quick Yorky.

It looks to me like the big 1,024 x 728 image was resized by Wet Canvas to fit the max allowable resolution.

Doesn't it show on your monitor?

Unfortunately, this is an embarrassingly large size for uploading the kinds of artwork I would want to upload.

And the iPad doesn't have any apps that ship with it to do a resize (at least not that I know of).

And, as mentioned, I don't want to add any additional apps beyond what it shipped with.

So frustrating.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

It looks fine to me, it is 600 wide x 800 high on my monitor.

I think you are being very restrictive not loading any new apps btw.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

Have you read the early posts in this thread? I explained how uploaded pictures from the ipad overwrite each other because they all have the same filename. The ipad doesn't have a proper filing system and you can't name your picture files.

Nevertheless if you scroll down and use the "manage attachments" facility you can upload and attached picture and so long as you post them in separate posts there is no limit to the number you can post in a day and they don't overwrite each other.

Unless you resize them you will inevitably run into problems when they exceed the uploaders limits.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

Thanks Yorky! Yeah, I read the whole thread, and had no problems with the upload per se.

It's just that a giant image like this is unnecessary when all I'm trying to upload might be a 100 x 100 line sketch, etc.

So it is frustrating to be forced into a position of having to use a secondary app just because the iPad has so little functionality.

I understand why you feel that I'm being too restrictive about 3rd-party apps. You may be right.

However, in the old days, when I used to buy apps from the App store, and first thought how fun they were, I also discovered there can be a really dark side to them.

So here I am today: a computer artist with no computer. And an app-lover with no apps. Ain't life grand.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

Not sure what I would do in your circumstances. Have you tried the online resizer in my signature? It doesn't require an app, it is accessed through your browser.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

Thanks again Yorky. I feel guilty for being such a "difficult patient" when you've done so much to try to help me. But there is absolutely positively no way I'll be using that tool, although I did check into it yesterday.

I want to say again Yorky, I'm sorry for being so stubborn. You're the absolute best. It's just me.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

This is a test to see which one disappears when I post two different color swatches from my iPad in the same post.

First, I'm uploading a small pale green swatch...

Now I'm editing the post to add a small orange swatch...

Nope.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

Okay, so in my test the only one that showed was the first one, just as this thread has described. But now I'll test what the thread said about it working if I post the new pic in a different post.

So now I'll try posting a lavender swatch...

Nope - didn't work.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

Okay, so according to this test, trying to post a second image on the same calendar day, even in a different post, does NOT work despite what this thread says

The naming system doesn't allow it.

And it doesn't replace the first one. It will just keep posting it for the rest of the day apparently, no matter what you might try to upload after it.

Jeppers.

Edit: And for the record, I just tried the same thing on a completely different forum, and even though I picked a photo, in the picker, it was the green swatch that showed up in the window. Again.

Wet Canvas is determined! Only one pic per day for iPad users like me, period.

Re: Uploading pictures from the iPad

If you attach one picture per post it will not overwrite. The problem is the awful file system on the ipad which names all the pictures the same. Attaching overcomes the problem. Just scroll down when you reply and use the Manage attacment option. This gives a unique filename to every picture uploaded.

PS I'm posting this from my ipad.
