Re: I call It " From The Depths " ( WIP )
Bella- thanks. the blending is the hardest part. I'm surprised i'm not laying on the floor in the fetal position mumbling inchoherently.

Re: I call It " From The Depths " ( WIP )
here is an update on my progress. i messed up the first painting big time and decided to restart from scratch. i changed the size of the front shark and made it a little smaller. there is still alot of work(or should i say fun) left to do. there are still a few elements left to add and alot of details to put in. 16x20 oil on canvas.

Becca - thanks. I think i got that from my father who was a master furniture craftsman . i apprenticed with him for a long time and while i was learning the trade everytime i made a mistake i would do it over until i got it right .
Bella- thanks alot.

did a little more . I am really winging this one. would have been nice to have a reference pic. So far it's a real learning experience. I think i have used almost all the techniques on this one, wet into wet, layering, and will start glazing towards the end .

This is coming along well, seems you are going to explore many methods of applying paint...and I do think a number of artists take that approach.

Re: I call It " From The Depths " ( WIP )
very good job. I love it. The only thing that I would change if I could is the alternation of light blue with blue background of the sea. Maybe I'll soften a bit.
keep going!I look forward to seeing the end

Re: I call It " From The Depths " ( WIP )
Vasilios - thanks for your kind words. you are absolutely right. the background looks like a dark stripe across the painting. i have been trying to lighten it with blending lighter blues but dont seem to be having any luck with that . looks like i will have to go heavier on the paint so that the dark wont show through. i wish i would have noticed it before i let it dry. sometimes when you work on something for too long you cant see the forest for the trees.

Re: I call It " From The Depths " ( WIP )
Vasilios and Becca - thanks so much for the kind words.
here it is with the background lightened. i used turp and a handy wipe cut into small squares and some Q-tips. It took me a while but i managed to scrub out all the dark area . i still have alot more work to do on it but i am happy with how it looks now. too bad this camera doesnt pick up all the subtle colors in the painting.

Re: I call It " From The Depths " ( WIP )
I was becoming concerned while looking through post and then you relieved me of this concern by placing the top lighting to the right of pic plane. I am really liking the foreshortening on the shark on right as well and the lighting on the diver is cool as it must be small and I don't think I could do it.
Looking forward to the further progression!
