December 12, 2018 at 10:14 pm #732694Fun, fun! I have been sketching on my iPad a lot lately as well, but I rarely share those with others as they are very incomplete thoughts usually (sometimes just a silhouette). In fact, I found out my iPhone 7 that I picked up used actually has pressure sensitivity to touch (based on what I assume is the width of the finger contact to the screen). At any rate, in Sketchbook on the phone I can get some fairly calligraphic marks, but unfortunately cannot get the angled tip to twist with tilt or rotation (only pressure). Still some nice effects can be attained even on the phone now which is nice for a little pocket sketchbook.

Procreate isn’t expensive and iPastel is free.

December 14, 2018 at 6:05 am #732707another done with iPastel
From memories of misty mornings with things half seen but the sun starting to burn through
The touch sensitive pencil works beautifully with this app, allowing me to vary touch and angle the pencil to use the side. And it was free

December 19, 2018 at 6:13 am #732709developing my knowledge of Procreate – more tutorials to watch to find out its possibilities and how to find actions and tools etc
I love the different brushes and the ease of changing opacity and size. I am familiar with layers from Photoshop and Corel, so once I found out where to click to get to them that was fine. I like the replay of an image, showing how it was built.

December 19, 2018 at 11:44 am #732695Oh, by the way, Sketchbook (the app) on iPad does work with the Apple Pencil, pretty well too. There are setting for brushes by opening the Library and tapping settings > stamp > rotation dynamics (controlled by stylus) & Scale (with tilt).
The first setting allows you to make a chisel tip (flat edge) have it’s straight edge rotate based on which angle you come at the stroke from (feeling more like a flat edge). The second setting allows you to have a brush scale large with the degree of your tilt (shading with the side of the brush kind of).
You also have settings in there to add textures to the brush or have it’s shape have a certain texture. As far as an application is concerned… for being free, Sketchbook is quite versatile.
All of the apps are nice though, and sketching on them is quite nice. I had not thought of putting up a sketchbook thread for my digital sketches… I do a lot of them sometimes. I should consider sharing them all.
- Delo DelofashtDecember 20, 2018 at 6:07 am #732710I’ve used sketchbook for a long time on my old ipad and was really disappointed when the touch sensitive thing didn’t work on the new. I’ll have to look again.
It did force me to learn Procreate though!
I really like iPastel as well, also free
Do put up a digital sketchbook
