Re: **Daily Wash Monday 20th August 2012**
Cooler here this morning, but nice and sunny after the rain yesterday. Our grass is surely growing. I think we have had enough rain for a time.
Carolyn, sure hope the pain is easing up now, and that healing is taking place.
Bill, yes that looks like phlox to me. Lovely hydrangea. Do you know what variety it is?
JJ, hope Zoe is going to be OK. How old is she?
Annie, glad you were not involved in that accident. I cannot imagine why a pregnant woman with a child in the car, would be drinking and driving. So sad for the future.
I did get the studio cleaned up yesterday and it feels much better. However, I know that it won't last long. We also went to church and out to lunch with some friends afterward. And I made shortcakes for dinner with peaches. Yum.
Tonight we are going to a potluck picnic with some friends. I am making a potato salad and we are to bring meat to grill. It is on the local lake, so should be nice, although it may be a little cool.
I think I may sew some more doll clothes today. And I have to put the salad together.
Wishing you all a happy and productive day.

Bill...agree wish Uschi (as always) Phlox is what they would be here.
Flax is a tiny vibrant blue flower from which they make linseed and linen.

Re: **Daily Wash Monday 20th August 2012**
Good Monday to all in washerland!!
Cool and clear this morning. Ahhhhh glorious day! Currently 57F going up to mid to upper 70’s. Partly cloudy so it should be a very nice day. Waiting for the workers to show up to continue work on the bathroom floor. They should finish it today, but don’t know if we’ll be able to walk on it tonight if they don’t get finished early enough in the day for the grout to “cure”. Not sure how long that takes but we will err on the side of caution and not step on it until cleared by them first! Scuppers was certainly happy to see us this morning, and we were happy to see him as well. Anne has a Dr’s consultation this morning with her oncologist, and an orthopedic surgeon re her back issues. They did an MRI on her spine and will try to determine if her back pain is related to her treatments or not.
Geoff…at least you got the 4 holes in first! We have pansies that bloom all winter long here as well..and primroses too. My favorite is flowering Kale…which is edible as well as colorful!
Annie, how horrible! Sad to think that a mother would be so uncaring to both her unborn child and her young one in the car with her! When Anne was carrying Amanda, she would not even drink tea! Thank goodness no one was seriously injured!
Doug, hope that finally this cold is deciding to leave, now you can holiday in comfort!
JJ, hope that Zoe recovers nicely. Your garden looks nice with the frog band in it!! Thanks for the Youtube link to separating egg yolks!! How clever!!
Bill, no it’s not stealing…it’s rescuing!! Now, are you going to start making your own linen? I wonder why we’ve never seen flax watercolor paper? I think I’d have gathered all the material to burn before starting the burns, but then you always find more once you start! I have a friend who lives near a state park campground and he bundles all his up and sells them to the the campers! He bundles up twigs and small branches into “fire starter” kits and larger branches into “firewood” bundles…he uses old inner tubes cut into “rubber bands” to bundle them up.
Uschi, if your day is exciting enough for you, that’s exciting enough!!
Henry, good luck on the hospital appointment! Is it for you or your DW??
Ellen, glad you had a good trip, and I know you’ll have fun with Max..but make sure that YOU don’t catch the Lurgie as well!!
Ona, so good to see you posting every now and again! We DO miss you, you know! Your success is making us all proud!!
Hullo Pat! Glad that Winnie is getting around a bit better, hope you can find a help for the “crunchy shoulders”! I think “voluptuous” sounds so much better than “chesty” don’t you?
Carolynn! Hurrah for you getting home so quickly!! I’m sure you’ll heal quickly now that you are in familiar surroundings and have your furkids there as well as Monty to keep an eye on you! You’re on your 8 weeks annual leave now yes? Don’t over do, and listen to your body ( Same thing I say to my Annie!) and LISTEN TO MONTY!! Sit back and only do those things you can do without causing pain! You have a lovely garden to enjoy so take time to enjoy it.
Shirley, I did get down to my studio yesterday, but my brain was too tight to loosen up and paint ..did find a renewal notice for my studio insurance bill though…maybe that’s what tightened it up!
Ok, I don’t know the difference between flax and phlox…so now I’ll just watch and see which way the debate goes!!
Make it a great day!!

Geoff, do you think it is a perennial? This comes up every year and blooms all summer. It grows to three feet tall. It could just be reseeding itself, though.
Hap, don't think I'll be making any linen. I do have a lot of flax growing, though. I save all my watercolor paper scraps and discards, so that someday I'll try to make my own paper.
Shirley, I'm not sure what kind of hydrangea it is. The flowers are cone shaped.

Ushchi, when we first went to Yorkshire, we were surprised that pansy's were the winter plants! I always thought they were such delicate plants.
The Grands have new bikes but DGD called for a ride home as the pedal fell off, so I must dash off

Re: **Daily Wash Monday 20th August 2012**
Bill, I checked my Phlox and it looks exactly the same as yours. They are definitely perennial and usually bloom from around third week in July for about a month, if you deadhead then smaller flower bundles will bloom from the side once the big bloom is over. White ones usually bloom a bit later than the coloured ones. They are fairly tough and drought resistant and they can be had in every nuance of pink you can imagine.
Hap, for excellent news from the oncologist!!
((((((((Carolynn)))))))) Soooooooooo much better being home!! I can't even imagine how much it must hurt because even when one has a bladder infection peeing (urinating) hurts like hell. Still sending my very best wishes!!
Judy and Geoff, we have winter pansies too and they come out in spring but NOTHING blooms during the winter here.
Shirley, my studio needs cleaning too, come hither
Ona, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! and I am not one bit surprised.
Pat, I hope they can figure out all of your mom's aches and pains!!
Well, I was out in the garden weeding, neighbour was out too, she is the one who tole me where to get that GORGEOUS perennial hibiscus plant, we aaawed and ooowed over them and promptly decided to get some more So now I have two maroon ones, one white with red throat and one soft pink. No all I have to do is dig the holes.
Almost time for table tennis so will and be gone.

Re: **Daily Wash Monday 20th August 2012**
Bill, Check out Nicotiana alata, it looks the same as your but I couldn't really see the leaf shape too well. This is a very self seeding annual.
Carolyn, God bless you. How painful that must be, I hope the pain lessens quickly.
I have had sinus problems for about a month and just now getting some better. Also the "good" hip is acting up and I am afraid I will have to have it done sooner than I wanted.
It has been cooler here finally and I am loving having the windows open.Maybe I will be able to get back out in the gardens and finish what I started in spring.
I will just have to say what Hap said. He says it with such humor and interest and I am just too boring.
I hope everyone has a great day and less pain, getting old is not for sissies.

Hello everyone!!! Have just been catching up on the wash, lots has happened while I was away. The weather was cold, but sunny, cold but rainy, cold.....did I say cold But it was wonderful to see the trees and the rocks and see the shadows of the leaves on my tent in the early morning. Not much painting got done, too cold I must be a wimp but I did do some pen and ink, will post when I have done the wash.

Hi to All
Bill, your location looks great
Hap, the appointment was for me, I was getting a persistant croaky throat, nothing wrong with the throat, but during the examination he noticed a mark on my face and said he is 90% certain it is a Basal cell carcoma, a slow growing malignant cancer of the skin. I am booked in for an operation with 2 months to remove it, I'm glad he caught it!
It never rains,but it pours!

I'm glad too Henry. We have to be ever watchful these days, I'm always one to keep out of the sun.

There are men working in our backyard again, working on the water falls and the fire pit, also had a guy who is going to put in some blinds in our clearstory windows, really too high up for us to do and the sun shines on our thermostat which annoys our ac!

Re: **Daily Wash Monday 20th August 2012**
Thank you Uschi Hap and Darla. I got the PWS signature status last year so no more initials. I'm very happy witht he three I do have and I will be getting another one next month from our local watercolour society (i know i should have started with that one but hey... i'm never ordinary ). The thrill of getting in to these big exhibitions is still very much there though however many i get into and I have so many people I know well in it too which is lovely. Its funny really. I still feel like a newbie to all of this but I have a couple of ' first timers' asking for my help.. eg with international shipping. I am very happy to help them of course but me???? an experienced person at this??? seems strange
