miniature landscapes

Both of these are gouache, ATC size (2.5" x 3.5"), painted on Arches cold press. The subject matter is around and near my neighborhood.

Re: miniature landscapes

My mind boggles with the size ... do you plan to do larger works of these?
in pastel perhaps?

Re: miniature landscapes

Awesome paintings - beautiful colors and still managed real nice distance with the size.

Do you use a magnifying glass while painting miniatures? I need to use sometimes with regular size paintings details because my progressive lenses have me seeing things all over the place.

Re: miniature landscapes

Thanks, John. No, these are my finished paintings. Time and space make this the perfect size for me now! I'm not working in pastels much any more, just gouache now.

Thank you, Mary. My vision is just the opposite of most. I can't see distances! But I can read the fine print, thread the needle and get out hairlike splinters. Together my husband and I have one useful set of eyes.

Thanks, Fred.

Here is the much improved daylight version of color on both of these.

Much better... plus I tweaked the mountain a bit.

Re: miniature landscapes

Hi Deborah,

Good handling of the gouache. You now make 1 of 3 artists I know who are using that medium more and more. In fact, one artist I know had a show and the only ones he sold were his gouache paintings. Very nice work on both of these....I love that lower desert piece Deborah...very nice!

Re: miniature landscapes

Thanks, Matthew. They are little--fit in my hand. It's fun painting so small.

Joachim, thank you.

Ron, thanks. Yep, the medium is enjoying more use and respectability lately. My husband keeps warning me not to start a Gouache Society. Too many memories of the early years of the Pastel Society I guess. (Not gonna happen.)
