Re: Basic 101: Class 14 - Figure Drawing

Magdalena - The woman with the wooden head looks natural - her body that is .
But I wonder where you found the references for the two other drawings. The man's drawing is well executed per se, but he is extremely muscular, almost a caricature.
But the woman doesn't look real, suggests to me an inflatable doll . In particular the transition between neck and chest lacks a clear structure:

Figure drawing is a complete discipline in itself, it needs more than an introductory class. I can recommend a series of workshops in the Figure forum. They are no longer active but contain a lot of valuable information.

Re: Basic 101: Class 14 - Figure Drawing

Hello Arnoud, thank You for Your review and time and I will study a series of workshops as well. The reference drawings are from this book

and drawings:

I was reading this book and I saw these drawings and I wanted to give it a try...at least I tried
Besides I know that every minute spent on Wet Canvas is not a wasted time regardless what my drawings look like, as I always learn from You and others.
Thank You again Arnoud

Magdalena - Well, you faithfully copied the references, for sure .
This illustrates the danger of relying on drawings/photos, and the importance of drawing from life. So that you can judge where no longer to follow the example.

Re: Basic 101: Class 14 - Figure Drawing

Hello Arnoud, Here is my male nude. Yesterday, Saturday, I went to my first life drawing session ever. Well, in about 32 years!
Here's Tony! This was a 25 minute drawing. The circles are me checking placement. The lines in the legs mark muscles. I was surprised they were so obvious.

Re: Basic 101: Class 14 - Figure Drawing

Arnoud, here is my fantasy figure. I'm working to learn a bit about perspective, too. this is the view from my studio into my dining room. Used 1 point perspective, and the figure is the fantasy. As a learning study, it's an okay first draft.

Re: Basic 101: Class 14 - Figure Drawing

Good study, Ella. The perspective is correctly constructed .
It struck me that the perspective is conceived for the eye level of a seated person. As a teacher of mine used to ask: Did you choose it, or was it just happening? (Because you drew it sitting at a table).
The choice of eye level is an important artistic consideration. With people or animals in the picture, the most "engaging" effect is normally attained by letting the perspective correspond to the eye level of the subject.

Re: Basic 101: Class 14 - Figure Drawing

I did choose that seated perspective. I have a grocery cart set up for plein air painting. It carries a stool and a top to draw/paint on. I was seated at it. Thanks for that tip. I will remember it. And thanks for commenting on the perspective. Now I'll work on the female nude.
