Derwent Lakelands are made in Indonesia by Faber-Castell:
(PS: Whoops, this set says Made in UK. My Lakelands are older and made in Indonesia – and the hues and numbers are so identical with FCs that it can be no coincidence.)

HeikkiJuly 24, 2016 at 9:16 am #1255057Mitsubishi Polycolor – the design suggests that this is from 1980s or a budget-priced brand:
http://www.pencils.jp/data/pencil/product/20130216_7d2a11.jpg
A Uni / Mitsubishi 36 set:
This Uni 36 set is interesting – the colour chart imitates Faber-Castell numbers and names and so do the pencils! Are they made by Faber-Castell of Indonesia or a pirate copy?

I wonder if Munhwa pencils are cousins of Mungyo pastels. These sets look neat:

Pentalic 24 set in an interesting store:

Sense may be an endemic Scandinavian brand:

Sets like this invade supermarkets before Christmas (usually nameless) – and oh boy how awful they are!

Additions are welcome!
HeikkiJuly 24, 2016 at 10:05 am #1254993Mitsubishi happens to have hands in so many markets, it never ceases to amaze me actually. Thanks for this super interesting information and pictures of tins I have never seen before.

HeikkiJuly 25, 2016 at 4:00 am #1255059Wow. A limited Fashion Colours set of 36 FC Polys:
Caran d’Ache Swisscolors in red tin:
There were black and green tins too (water-soluble and non-soluble) as well as a a wooden box of ‘nameless’ 1282 brand although with 30 colours only. Later these were replaced with Classicolor which has now evolved to Fancolor.
More Faber-Castell Multicolor sets; made in Brazil?
Old (Derwent) Lakeland tins:

Anybody found anything else?
HeikkiJuly 25, 2016 at 6:56 pm #1255267Okay, I ordered the finetec skintones. Will let you know how they work for me.
July 26, 2016 at 6:57 am #1255060Okay, I ordered the finetec skintones. Will let you know how they work for me.
This is the Lyra Color Giant skin tone set for comparison:

By the way, if anyone has any of these 36 colour or larger tins (mint or slightly used), I’d be delighted to get one in my paws. I can pay by sending a Bruynzeel Expression 36 tin, a Stabilo Aquacolor 36 tin or a Maped 48 cardboard-box set (lower middle class), a Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth 36 set in wrong Chinese tin (they came in a plastic wallet) or a Staedtler Karat 36 tin (upper middle class), a Faber-Castell Polychromos or Albrecht Dürer 36 ~ 48 ~ 60 tin with original or customized colour range, or almost any Derwent 72 tin. I actually do have several surplus sets and I can easily get those I don’t have. Please send me a personal message if you’re willing to swap.
HeikkiJuly 26, 2016 at 12:19 pm #1255061… a Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth 36 set …
A Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth Polycolor 36 set, that is.
HeikkiJuly 26, 2016 at 2:41 pm #1255333Sketch and Sniff:
(I’ll be damned – I thought I was the only one who did that.)
Kos

PERESTRELLO's BOX
Root, Bone, Sticks & StoneJuly 26, 2016 at 5:06 pm #1255062(I’ll be damned – I thought I was the only one who did that.
In fact some brands have been and are recognizable by sniffing them! Early 1990s Stabilo Softcolor and several Bruynzeels had a wax-like smell, so did Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor in early 1990s, Caran d’Ache Classicolor smelled like white glue (polyvinyl acetate), some recent Stabilos have a rather pleasant fresh-lumber-like scent.
If a brand has a pungent solvent stink, it’s very probably cheap and made in China – like all four Mont Marte sets I have.
HeikkiJuly 27, 2016 at 7:31 am #1255063This Lyra Rembrandt set might be from 1970s:
https://img1.etsystatic.com/001/0/5683401/il_570xN.353721211_op44.jpg
There are several modern sets that I also would like to get: Bruynzeel Design or Design Aquarel 48 set, Cretacolor Karmina or SoHo Urban Artist 72 set, Cretacolor Marino 36 set, Daler-Rowney Watercolour 36 set, Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarell 60 set, Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor 72 set, Marco Raffine or Marco Renoir 72 or even 48 set, Staedtler ‘nameless’ or Luna 48 box, Talens Van Gogh Colour or Watercolour 60 set. New or slightly used as long as nothing’s missing.
Like I wrote, I can give a Bruynzeel Expression 36 tin, a Stabilo Aquacolor 36 tin or a Maped 48 cardboard-box set (lower middle class), a Koh-i-noor Hardtmuth Polycolor 36 set in wrong Chinese tin (they came in a plastic wallet) or a Staedtler Karat 36 tin (upper middle class), a Faber-Castell Polychromos or Albrecht Dürer 36 ~ 48 ~ 60 tin with original or customized colour range, or almost any Derwent 72 tin.
Any interest to swapping?
HeikkiJuly 28, 2016 at 10:54 am #1255064I’ve been vaguely aware of Spectrum Noir pencils but now it looks like they are going strong:

The idea about dividing 120 colours into Essentials, Primaries, Floral, Marine and Nature sets is interesting. Has anybody tried them yet?
HeikkiJuly 29, 2016 at 4:03 am #1255065Solabelas are made in Vietnam and the sets are named after big cities – like Blaupunkt names its car radios.
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/oqq_rggfD9Y/maxresdefault.jpg
Solabela actualle lives in California and you can guess who wants those 48 and 36/72 sets even though they come in cardboard boxes…
HeikkiJuly 29, 2016 at 5:28 pm #1255006Just found this! My head is spinning and I have put even begun to go through your list! But I will!

July 29, 2016 at 9:01 pm #1255007Love the old vintage Derwent tins! Thought I sent you the. Creatacolor Karminas, I did not know they made big sets of those. I thought someone was trading you for those Marcos? You don’t need a credit card, eBay and even dickblick.com now take PayPal. PayPal you can sign up for online you only need a bank account.
