Any critic is helpful to me to improve . Thanks Jo.
Very nice painting Donna! All shapes are abstract. The waterfall design is dead on.

Re: Johannes - Student Critique Posts Only

I was told to post here. This is just a "trial" posting today to see if I can see what I post after doing so. Evidently I am posting to Johannes' Student Critique Posts.
I will also include two pastel paintings....one in regular pastels, a bouquet in a vase "Tropical Bouquet" and the other done in pastel pencil and stick pastel. These I did some time ago as most of my paintings are now in oil, because: No matting needed, no plexiglass needed...just put the canvas in a frame and viola! Thanks, Claire Vogt Wally

You sky iis drawing the viewer in nicely. I think you can afford to make the falling water a bit more obvious. Don't add more water just lighten some parts.
I agree about the comments concerning the birds. Either we just indicate them as small specs or we take them out. The problem with birds always is they
are moving and when we try to depict them they are static. They should be smudged and barely visible to what they are.
Here is an example:

Re: Johannes - Student Critique Posts Only

Thank you! Yes, even before I read your comment, I just finished removing the ravens. Even though the wings were smudged out, they still drew my eye too much. I "had a moment" I guess from working with that fraud case! I will lighten the fountain water also. (The upper right corner is darker because of shadow on it, I didn't darken it.)

Here it is without the birds and brightened the fountain water in places.

For whatever reason, it worked! I've attached it here for your critique from the seascape video I purchased off your site. I would love your input.

Jo,

Here is a landscape that I have tried to incorporate your essentials of buildings, mountains, trees and grass. Your comments would be appreciated.

Jo: Got a compliment on this one "you have so many layers of distance" to which I replied "I was taught by a good instructor how to do that". Thanks to you Jo.

Interesting how the person literally said, "layers of distance".
