This initial sketch depicts me headed into town in my 1964 Chevy pickup truck –
It is a 150 mile trip ( which I only make about every six weeks during Spring, Summer and Fall … never in Winter ); 100 of which is on this dirt and gravel road leading from my place –
As you can see, I am driving down the middle of the road … most of the time I never have to pull over for other vehicles … traffic is very sparse here –
Painting: Oil on stretched linen, 18 x 24; Palette: Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Italian Green Umber, Indian Red, Ultramarine Blue and Cremnitz – The truck is a touch of Vermilion –
Comments and suggestions always welcome –

May 29, 2019 at 1:47 pm #833760Hmm, brings back memories. It was 40 miles of dirt road where my folks lived back in the 70-80s. We had friends in Bolivia that were from Detroit. She couldn’t believe the open markets and dirt roads in Bolivia. I told her it felt like home. No, she couldn’t believe there were dirt roads in the USA. I was amazed at her and she was amazed at me. Ha.

That is amazing about your friends from Detroit … they would not like it here in Montana – We have more dirt roads than paved; so one must be adaptable to not having their vehicle the same color as it came off the showroom floor … it takes on a hue of the road you travel –
We only have two Interstate Highways in Montana … one runs North and South; the other, East and West – The North/South route is 500 miles to the West of me; and the East/West route is 200 miles to South of me … so I am very secluded where I live … which is fine with me – Peace and solitude makes good fare for creativity –

I don’t like where the truck is … to small … plan to bring closer to the viewer – Yes, I intend to develop the scene as a Warm and Sunny day … need it –

June 2, 2019 at 7:51 pm #833772Between plowing and planting my garden this week, I have managed to do some work on this piece – I have my basic design of the scene now, so I will begin refining … hopefully producing a decent painting –

June 2, 2019 at 8:49 pm #833761I love this, brings on the memories. We know dirt roads well. We enjoyed our times in Montana, too. Thanks for the update.

My website https://jocastilloart.comJune 2, 2019 at 8:49 pm #833758Hud, this is very nice! Like the larger truck and dusty trail behind. Gee, and I thought growing up 22 miles from town was bad…cannot imagine 150 miles! If you need medical attention I suppose you just wait or do the long drive.

Well, I enjoy the peace and solitude one has being removed from the frenzy of traffic and city life … provides a quality artistic life –
As far as medical attention is concerned, I have never been sick in my life ( except for the measles when I was kid ) … so have not had the need to see a doctor … plan to keep it that way –
Thanks for visiting and commenting – Hud
