Re: The creek

I really like this. The rocks and water are convincing, reminds me of backpacking. If there is supposed to be light shining through the trees and an angle, it looks more to me like the forest is dissolving away. Which I like better anyway. Nice work.

Re: The creek

It has impact, and the kind of wow factor that should sell easily.

For the darker left side, maybe more hints of the misty light between the trees, maybe a hint of more color on the trees, or some soft edge lighting as if an opening is beyond..
Some of that might already show more in real life vs the photo here..

I notice a spotty but vertical line (a suggestion of foliage?) along the right side of the most center tree by the water.. It just feels too lined up.

Re: The creek

I really like this, it has immediate impact. I found as I was scrolling down the painting that the impact was even stronger with a little cropped from the top

Re: The creek

Upper right quadrant, near center: The brushwork has a series of diagonal strikes that draw the eye away from the creek, to nowhere in particular.

This is really, really nice. Wonderfully moody. The only two things that bother me are in the area where the light is falling. The rather straight line of light on top of the long rock seems too rigid or not organic. Same with the square of light in the water.

Re: The creek

Well, I can't fault it, bloc. I think it's absolutely superb. Yes, you could change a few things, and it might be for the better, but it's such an eye-catching and moving piece that I'd be reluctant to take it any further. Your style is clearly deliberate and it holds the attention of the viewer effortlessly.

One to return to and admire over and over again. Hat's off!
