Hi,
I know this may be a simple resolve, but I’ve struggled making edges of an image soften (This is extremely Zoomed in for show):
See how around the black line there is a lighter edge? How do I solve that? Even if I darken the blacks it seems to still have an otuline like that.I’m using an old version of Photshop (CS2…), and have heard of things like feathering but when i tried it with a selection, if just lessened the pixels within the selection…
Any advice would be appreciated
April 29, 2019 at 4:49 am #817491Knowing what this is, and what the source is would help. It looks like something that was scanned in low resolution, or printed from a slightly textured paper, which makes it bitmappy. I spent many years working for newspapers, where we would try to work with poor quality logos that were sent. When you scanned from a business card (many business cards are printed on poor quality card stock) you often got this problem.
You can get out the lighter edge by going into Image/Adjustments/Threshhold. That will cause every pixel to be either black or white, but you still have the jagged edges. The best solution to that, is to make a new layer, and trace over the entire design with the pen tool. That will give you a vector shape, which will not be bitmappy, as long as you are in HIGH RESOLUTION. 300-600 dpi. You might be able to make a selection and then smooth the selection and fill, but it might also alter some of the shapes.
Feathering will give you soft edge, not harden the edges that are there, Thresholding will. I hope that helps.April 29, 2019 at 8:18 am #817494I have been scanning it in 600 pdi – The photo I used as an example was very zoomed in so I could demonstrate the problem.
I basically want to scan in my drawing and loose the edges and artifacts around the image.
On Photoshop I have been using Select> Colour Range and using that tool to select the white from the image and remove it, yet I still have various shades of darker whites and greys that I cannot remove.
On the image I showed around the black is an edge of grey that I cannot remove and this is realy holding me back right now :/

May 1, 2019 at 11:14 pm #817493If you want crisp lines, you have to go vector. Its a type of graphic that can be scaled back and forth without terrible bitmaping. What you have are bitmap graphics.
There is a free program called Inscape that can make true vector graphics. PhotoShop and its likes do not make true vector graphics.
If its just a finer edge you are looking for then you have to increase the dots per inch of your file. Otherwise I’d stick to making this as a vector graphic.
If you never used such a program there is a bit of a learning curve getting use to this way of producing graphics.http://ktigressscreativelog.blogspot.com/
