I’ve found a “wonderful” website on pastel painting courses, it announces on its “join up” page what we will find, for the advanced level (more expensive) in the website as follow :

        Specialist Pastel:
        Traditional Pastel Techniques
        Impressionist Pastel Techniques
        Underpainting Techniques
        Portrait – drawing/painting
        Landscape – advanced
        Masterclass Themed Projects
        Live Training
        And Much More!

wawou this seemed wonderful, I subscribed 49 euros a month. I went inside the website, searched for what was annouced, and found some pdfs and short videos on introductions to tonal values, colors, but just introductions with exercices for beginners, and few demos.

I thought that it was me who didn’t manage to find them, so I asked, I was answered that there were none, it wasn’t a website with videos and pdf you can choose from, but the person in charge was willing to give you photos to work from and tell you if you need to work portrait or rather landscape and give you advice….

Does this worth 49 euros a month ? what do you think ?

Hmmm. I would not be pleased.
There are many free videos on pastel painting on Youtube.com. If you click on the link at the top of the Soft Pastl Talk page, you will find Don’s monthly thread, the Spotlight, very informative. Also, stop by the Learning Center for information on pastels. Lastly, we have a Works in Progress section where our members share their process in using pastels. I hope you find this information a bit more helpful.

ohhh…that is very expensive for what you are getting…definitely cancel the subscription and see if you can geta refund.

All that basic stuff (And Much More!) can be found here for free.
That money would be much better spent on instructional DVDs from established painters…and there are a lot out there.

I’m sorry you had this experience.

thanks for your answers, I’ve already cancelled my subscription of the Pastel Academy Online, it is really useless.

Search for Jason Morgan on Patreon. He has some great chalk pastel (and oil painting) instruction videos. You can select the level of patronage and what you get to access.

                        Look at https://www.landscapepaintinglessons.com/instructional
This is Marla Baggetta’s site. She is a pastelist of note and her offerings are legit. You can find her on Youtube as well.

Hi, you could also try artistsnetwork.tv, onlineartvideos or arttutor.com. There is also craftsy.com (but they have drawing and watercolor classes, not pastel)

Also Johannes Vloothuis, who does many courses…but tends to do three in one course = 1 in Pastel, 1 in Acrylic and 1 in oils…
