I taught a Portrait Workshop at the Studio this weekend- this is the short demo in Pastel done this morning. I’ve not done a sketch like this in a long time, and really enjoyed the magic of Pastel as it came together before my eyes- talking and answering questions the whole time. The students enjoyed the class and learned a lot! 12×16 Canson Soft Pastel

C&C always welcome.

This is one of the most challenging things you can do- give a portrait demo while teaching. I have much admiration for this!bethany

April 24, 2018 at 7:01 am #609384Thanks very much Bethany– It is challenging for sure! New to the explanation was an effort to include the oil process. About halfway through, I realized that almost no measuring was done, but it was good (amazing!). It all was better than I hoped!

Seeing your things here inspires me to try harder and learn more. Perhaps, when I get my eyes straightened out, I’ll be able to take one of your online classes!
April 26, 2018 at 8:32 am #609385Thanks Winnieike! I can show you the steps toward good portraiture in pastel, and it’s best do learn the right things from the start (we can do this via email if you like). When will your eye issues be better?

Hi Ken! I’m hoping very soon. I’ve been seeing doctors at OSU and they’ve got a plan. I have myasthenia gravis and irregular corneas. Currently I’m having great success resolving the cornea problem with the use of hard contact lenses. However, MG causes double vision. I’m going next week to talk about getting prisms. Fingers crossed I’ll be as good as new very soon; I’m so hopeful! 😃
April 28, 2018 at 8:58 am #609386I’m glad to hear that Winnieike– Prisms do work in glasses, and we don’t need eye issues as artists! As I mentioned, I can help anytime with your work through arranged lessons (email, etc.) if you like-
