figure drawing from today

Hello all,

today was a somewhat unsuccessful day ... I dabbled with new paper and new materials and got nothing much worthwhile as result from it. But I got this single one in charcoal on my usual paper which I'd like to post for C&C.



The dark breast part is not so greatly done but I'm pretty happy with the suit. It was a 10 minute pose. I really indeed like it more when the model has something on as dress. Especially since the light there is kind of horrible and with a suit there is a little shadow here and there to hold on to. The model leaned against the wall with the shoulder and sat on a box.

This drawing turned out well Sascha, if one drawing turns out well that’s a good evening.
Also you will have learned something from using the new materials. Was the model feeling cold so put the jacket on?

Not sure if it was unsuccessful: this one has good structure and proportions, she is definitely sitting there. One suggestion, I like how you've drawn the left foot but something that works for me is to just hint at the line/gap between the big toe and rest to give more direction to the foot. It is not always true with models that this is emphasized (particularly with long toed models) but it seems to work.

I'd be interested to see your other drawings but I recognise that sometimes the success of the experiments is to try something else rather than the end results (it all adds to the learning experience).

Thank you Dave ... it was after the break and she had a nice coat and one guy from the group said its a good pose. I liked it as well. That is a great Tip Nathan. Good to see these Duston ..... I see alittle more action happening here in shapes , I like Nathans suggestion on the foot thing!

I think the idea of keeping the coat was a good one, it served as a good contrast to the figure and also suited your rather strong lined method of drawing... all of your drawings seem to catch the naturalness of the poses.

Whilst I can see some proportional issues with the drawings you originally skipped they also have some really good areas. The lean of the first pose, the blocked in hand on the second and the shapes of the upper contour on the third are examples.
