Grandma, 3/4 life size, oil on poly canvas

Hi guys! Long time. I've been busy last year with moving to a new city, building a studio, so on and so forth. But I'm back now!

Anyway, I've painted my grandmother a couple times before, but never full figure. She's only about 4 ft 9 in, so that made it pretty manageable. Thanks for looking!

Fantastic! She small but mighty, right? There is a lot of strength and character in her face. I love it.

Thank you Phranque, indeed she is. She's 84 with a crystal clear mind, always with a sharp and witty comment about something. We all love her!

I looked at the high-res picture to get the details- beautiful!
I like the composition and the costume and the subtle colours.

I really like your earthy colors and soft edges, which keep it lively and fresh, not stiff or overdone. The green glow in the background is a nice contrast to the shape of the figure, and it counterbalances the glow from her white hair.

Hi Bethany! Thank you so much. Glad you liked the bigger version also.

Carol: Thank you ever so kindly! Capturing the spirit and charm of ageing faces is both hard and exciting.

Allison: That's a really thoughtful comment, thank you! Color harmony was pretty difficult for me with this one, I had to repaint some areas over and over to make it look convincing.

And thank you too Margaret!

Thanks Jessica, it feels really good to finally have a dedicated studio (my first). We converted the double garage building next to the house we bought. It's a tiny town next to the ocean with forests and walking trails - really peaceful here, which is what I've always wanted.
