Oregon trail, forested valley view

started a 6"x 8" oil on cardstock...

from out west...finishing will likely be a a couple days...

(experiment..back side two coats Zinsser Bullseye Shellac spray, front two coats Zinsser, and several light coats of Polycrylic. Was easy to yet draft in my initial charcoal vine stick composing...and received paint very nicely...)

A quick little smartphone app sketch over the painting to share how diagonal lines work to lead the eye up and over, down and back for interest, juxtaposed against the verticals of the trees...

Thanks for the analysis via lines. One issue: The reddish flowers(?), front and center, are a bit of a visual obstacle.

Not too concerned at this point...just accents points for what is yet to come and be worked out.

For one, don't want too much of a green wall in the foreground...some offset with variation

Thanks for the comments

Lovely work as usual Larry... Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year. BTW... Going to Gettysburg to paint for a week in July... Give it some thought.

Squint and the scene becomes real. The shot of the painting on the easel....is it a photo? No but the distance makes it seem so.

Impressionism at it's best. Up close - an abstract. Further away - it's real.

Good work as usual Larry

Another lively painting. I enjoyed your movement squiggle lines. I like the subtle flowers in front, they break up the green but are not too conspicuous. Very nice!
