Cloud Formation.

This was taken from the BBC weather from a video. I thought it looked cool. Ever seen something like it?

Re: Cloud Formation.

A lenticular cloud! I don't live in a hilly area so I've hardly ever seen one, although I do remember a really small one when I was on holiday in the Lake District. This one's huge though! If you look closely you can see some more in the distance, on the left below the big one.

They say that these clouds are responsible for a large amount of UFO sighting reports, and you can see why.

I love clouds!

Re: Cloud Formation.

Interesting to watch cloud formations. Its neat how this one is in layers. I once saw an anvil shaped cloud, which I understand is not out of the ordinary but it seemed like it at the time.

Our skies are certainly wondrous.

This was in Yorkshire, quite hilly there in some places.

Re: Cloud Formation.

We had this strange one. Same thickness all over, just like a board.

Wow, interesting. They look so peculiar that my first thought was "bad photoshop job." Nature really is amazing.

Re: Cloud Formation.

That is so cool!! I love looking at interesting and unusual cloud formations. I do live in a hilly area, but I have never seen one like that!

Thanks for sharing-that styro-foam(sp??) "board" cloud is neat, too!

Re: Cloud Formation.

I've seen lenticular clouds form over the peaks of high mountains--especially Mount Shasta in northern California (do a Google image search for some stunning photos). I guess it's hardly surprising that Shasta has long been a magnet for UFO enthusiasts and various New-Agey types, as the cloud formations there have such an eerie, mystical quality.

I don't recall ever seeing one over open country like that, though (truth is, I probably never noticed). Definitely cool.

Re: Cloud Formation.

I once spotted a cloud formation above my former neighbor's house that resembled some one pulling down their pants and showing their full moon. Unfortunately I didn't have a digital camera at the time.
