Dim Sum & Azaleas
(Cross posted from WC Gallery)
I've decided to start a series of paintings representing some of my favorite things in life, starting with dim sum!
Usually on Sundays instead brunch with a gallon of champagne, I go out and enjoy a dim sum meal...and thought it only made sense to finally paint it today.
Apologies for the less than stellar image, it was taken with my Thrive Tablet camera; the upper right of the canvas is really glossy. My actual camera's being fixed, so maybe I'll replace the image once it's ready.
"Dim Sum and Azaleas", 20 x 16 oil on Centurion LX Linen Canvas.
The foods themselves are Cha Siu Bao, egg custard tarts, and Chinese broccoli.
Palette used: Naples Yellow Light, Cad Yellow Light, Yellow Ochre Pale, Cad Yellow Deep, Cad Orange, Transparent Oxide Red, Avignon Orange, Transparent Oxide Brown, Asphaltum, Venetian Red, Indian Red, Cad Red Medium, Crimson Lake (Maimeri), Burnt Carmine, Brilliant Pink, Manganese Violet, Cobalt Violet, Dioxazine Purple, Berlin Blue, Cobalt Blue, Viridian, Phthalo Green, Chromium Oxide Green

Re: Dim Sum & Azaleas
WOW! Your flowers POP! Your reds look VERY Oriental, very rich. I like the composition, too.

Re: Dim Sum & Azaleas
Love this, my eye is drawn back to the red vase, holding a bouquet of beautiful white flowers. I also like the composition you've created w/a variety of objects.

Re: Dim Sum & Azaleas
Updated image; I reduced the size of the steamed buns to make it more accurate to reality; I've never seen buns that big when I order them!
I also changed the size of one of the custard tarts, and added a glaze of Lefranc Transparent Indian Orange to the vase in order to make the color more warm & rich. Then I stopped messing with it, now it's completely finished.
