Trow Rock from the Dunes

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Trow Rock from the Dunes
Year Created:
Medium: Oil
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 50 x 40 cms
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
This one of three paintings, soon to be four, of heavy seas at South Shields, North East England. I took the photos for these paintings on May 4th, this year, when I suddenly came across a particularly active sea. An onshore wind and very high tide had conspired to create a scene rarely seen. It was a particularly blustery day.

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Any points regarding colour and tonal value would be helpful, but particularly mood and atmosphere. The composition highlights the vastness of the sea to the left by leaving it devoid of land. The gulls are ever-present and seem to react to the ocean turmoil.

If you ask me, Don't touch it. It's beautiful. Gives me the exact feeling of a blustery day at the the sea. I can smell the salt water in the air. Would love to be standing there watching.

Re: Trow Rock from the Dunes

Thank you very much WG and Kin, for the encouraging comments. Appreciated.

I wasn't sure if the scale was coming across so I've added a couple of figures to the top of the main rock (Trow Rock) and have reduced the size of the seagulls. In addition to this I've retouched the surf and waves and hope it still looks ok. The main wave, that is about to break, must be approx. ten feet high, which is unusual for these parts. I'll add the revision after this post.

Best to both

Re: Trow Rock from the Dunes

It's a lovely painting Beemax. The colors are natural and attractive, the paint handling is appropriate to the subject and well executed.

My only criticism is you spelled "Throw" wrong in your title

Nicely done.

This rates among the best seascapes I have seen It really has captured the total essence of a windy day at the shore. Hope to see many more.

Re: Trow Rock from the Dunes

Thank you very much indeed, dorrart and WG, for the highly encouraging comments. Very much appreciated.

Thanks for the analysis and keen eye, dorr. Sorry 'bout the spelling. *smile*

I nearly fell off my seat when I read your comments, WG, then smiled my proverbials off. I have three more similar paintings in the series, or will have once I'm finished. I'll post them soon.

Best to both
