Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for May 2019

This is a nice development! Maybe try adding some pinks and purples to the shades, I think it'll add to the painting

Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for May 2019

Christel and Terri, thank you!

Tali, thanks - and thanks for the suggestion too! I have only 2 days left to finish this up (will leave for my hometown and am bringing this painting with me), hopefully it will look good...

Well, it already looks pretty nice, so I'm guessing you'll have it just the way you want it within 2 days. Looking forward to seeing the finished piece!

Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for May 2019

I completed this painting on time but I didn't have the time to upload it... I'm still visiting my family and can't upload the photos cause I'm using a very old laptop of my in-laws...
But I will do soon!

Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for May 2019

Sorry for the long wait. I got back almost a week ago, but we all got laid down with a bad cold... still feeling unwell, but already able to post something

So this is the finished piece, done with Mungyo Gallery, Cray-Pas Specialist, some Pentel Artists' Oil Pastels and some Neopastels, on A3 (about 12 in x 16 in) Canson Mi-Teints, the rough side which I chose by mistake but it works well on this painting.

Some close-ups:

Your tree bark is excellent! All the colors go so well together, very nice palette. I know this turned into one of those bigger-than-expected projects, so I'm happy you stuck with it until you got it to your satisfaction.

Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for May 2019

Thank you, Terri!
Yes, this big tree is "the main character" in the painting
I enjoyed working on this painting a lot cause I had to learn new things like how to paint the greens which look pale in the sunlight (on the ref) and how to paint the surface of that architecture...
You know, I've come to really like working on A3 format even if it takes longer time to complete. But it gives one so much space to experiment! I love it! I even started dreaming about trying quicker sketches in A3 format

Hi Mira,
Great new painting. I love all the details and the textures of the bark and leaves. Great light and shade.
