Re: July 2019 Fantasy Sci-Fi Challenge and Chat

Robin Hobb my favorite author and brilliant Creator of Worlds.

"What the Dragon Dropped" from the Liveship Traders books.
In this part of the book the Dragon Tintaglia has carried Reyn Khuprus of the Rain Wild Traders to his lost love Malta Vestrit of the Bingtown Traders. She dropped him in the sea by the Liveship Vivacia and he was brought on board the ship, unconscious. This is the first time Malta sees Reyn's face as his veil is knocked off in the rescue.
He is blue scaled, fine scales like that of a small fish. Tintaglia has marked him as hers, in their travels to save Malta. (who had saved herself by then).
Also in the scene, the would be king of the pirates Captain Kennit (one of those characters you love to hate) with his Raven flag. His woman Etta, she fierce strong willed and cunning. Wintrow Vestrit the older brother of Malta and once in training to be a Priest of Sa now Kennit's prophet. Can't forget the ship, The liveships are wonderful characters, the young impressionable Vivacia, the bawdy yet still matronly Ophelia, and poor twisted Paragon, who I love the most!

The great thing about her books is the characters are all so well written that I have had people ask me "who is the main character?" I always say does it need one? Aren't they all interesting?
Besides everyone is always the hero of their own story.
