Hails from Canada
An hour by the river

Found my way to the spot where my grandmother taught my mother to swim, Salmon River, Huntingville, Quebec. Had a chance to use my rigged up cigar box and it was a thrill. The clips from a rimless frame worked with an elastic string to hold my panel onto the cover of the box and the little knapsack that I bought for two bucks held everything I needed. The painting isn't so thrilling but anyway here it is.

6 x 9" panel, oil

I want to post again after a winter of scrambling my mind with books on technique. Any suggestions for improvement welcome. Thanks!

An hour well spent! It's a lovely piece - has a beauty of a subtle palette, calm demeanor and a nice composition.

Very nice! I like the slight changes you made to the composition, too, well done! I do find the reflection of the left hand tree a little distracting, but everything else works great.

Thank you for your comments, Lynn and Steve. I think you are right Lynn and the reflection on the right is better being more subtle. And Steve, nice to hear!

Re: An hour by the river

Hi again, Lynn. You mentioned "slight changes you made to the composition". Well, making the the sand bar on the left smaller was a conscious change. However, in the painting process, sometimes things get changed as you feel your way around and if they turn out well, you can hardly take credit for it! On the other hand, I could always take the blame if the changes don't turn out well. Ew, sounding like a liberal. Thanks again, Lynn.
