This is a new subject for me – painting birds/animals – though I’ve sketched several of them in pen and ink. I did paint a bird once, several years ago, without having any idea of how I should go about it. This time I did have a plan and hopefully I’ll get better at executing it as I do more of these. This one is in watercolour and gouache on 300 gsm A4 size cold pressed watercolour paper.

I am no expert on birds Blah but I suggest your warbler could do with a bit more subtle shading to make it more three dimensional. Otherwise I think it is very good and I like flowers and background.

            Mike :)

its defiantly yellow,,,I think if you carefully added some shadow to the bird it would be a very nice painting

Nice pose – he has character.

I think Mike and Kaylen offer good advice.

Mike, Kaylen, Thomas and Jon…Thank you. I have added some shading and it certainly gives it better form.
