I was doing a search for Winterstone and got this link with lots other good sources within it.........

http://www.makersgallery.com/concrete/links.html

P.S. It is interesting to note that on my Winterstone search, the first result on the list was Jeff Yielding.............

Sculpture Study by al22 AKA al

Hi All:
I just came from a visit to al22's terrific web site 'Watercolor And Sculpture'. Along with his fine paintings and sculpture he also has a 'Sculpture Study' step by step start to finish from clay to molding to casting to patina. I really learned a lot!
I highly recommend y'all take some time pour yourself a refreshment (I prefer Merlot) and spend some time at Al's site.

Wow! a great bunch of links! I'm slowly working my way through them. I've been thinking on and off about trying my hand at sculpture - no time this month, but soon I hope! Anyway, I saw Frank's post about a trip to the foundry in Arizona, and replies of people wanting to visit, so I thought I'd pass along this link I found with a huge state-by-state list of foundries - I doubt they all offer tours, but its worth a try! I think it would be an interesting (and hot!) trip.

If anyone has any more good links for absoulute beginners? Especially about different types of materials and how to get started? I'd love to see them!
Thanks!

Gorgeous work Lynda!! Just curious -- Do you have a gallery or do you market from your own studio? I am just getting back into sculpture commercially after being out of the artscene for almost 20 years and am looking for galleries that deal in animal art -- promoting oneself is a lot of work! I do dog sculpture and like you,, i do more relaxed style 2-d work -- mostly prints.

And to make this related to the "thread" for websites, here is one .. http://www.whiteriverfoundry.com/bro...ina_basics.htm and also the links page http://www.whiteriverfoundry.com/useful_links.htm

best regards,
deb in FL

Hi -- gorgeous work yourself! I market through my Website, magazine ads, trade fairs (Equine Affaire/OH and Mass.; Loveland Sculpture Invitational in CO; Village Place @ the Derby; and upper level horse shows. Animal galleries? I only know wildlife ones out west and sporting art ones in KY. Sorry! Have you done the Art Show at the Dog Show in St. Louis?

Thanks Lynda ). yes, i am entering ASDS for the first time this year. Wish me luck! I also did the dog shows for a couple of years but all the shlepping got pretty old after a while (as did i <g>). And i hated being tied to a booth when i wanted to watch the show. Still it was great for sales and exposure. Now if I could only find a young helper to come to shows with me and trade them for artwork that would be the way to go ).

Meanwhile,, to stay with the links here is another one - sculpture discussion board on google http://groups.google.com/groups?oi=d...alt.sculpture.

take care )
deb

If you want a "how to" -- click these (yes, part of my website -- these were some of the forerunners of my book): Art How-to and Sculpture 101 This last one shows the piece I'm using as my "tiny head" ("Skydancer: Liberty") being created from the bare armature on to the finished piece. Well, there are a couple of intermediate pics of another piece there, but they're just there to show the progression of a piece. I should have taken pics of the cougar piece I'm doing, because I did a completely different armature for it -- but I didn't photo it because I wasn't sure it would work, and then I spent a lot of time fighting with it to MAKE it work! Now it's the "Work in Progress" on the link in my previous post. Anyway, hope this is what you're looking for. I have three horse pieces waiting for me to finish this cougar, and a piece of jewelry waiting as well, so I've gotta get this kitty to the foundry SOON -- I can post pics of other pieces when I get back to them, but they're all in the half-way to 7/8's finished stage, not "start to finish" as shown on the Sculpture 101 page above. Hope this is what you were looking for!

BTW, I have a new "work in progress" showing the steps of making a relief (of a cutting horse this time), if y'all are interested. Work in Progress (cutter) (Warning: If you read this post very long after it was posted, you may see something else on this page than the cutter -- the cutter will have its own page by then, which you can find via my Wall Art Gallery page. I'm in the process of changing the calf in the picture to one that's a bit more of a profile shot (not a true profile or even 3/4 -- more like 1/8 profile, maybe??? LOL!) so check back in a few days and see how it looks then.

Is anyone aware of sites that would provide a bit of "how to" in concrete sculpture?
