Re: QDC - our Quick-Dry-Cafe ..... come chat!

BC sounds fantastic .... I'm actually reading a book (just a novel) about BC on my kindle ... it echoes what you say Sheryl!

My travelling days are over, so I'll enjoy all your trips vicariously!

Wow Sheryl, you sound like a travelog. It is beautiful though, but I think I will have to travel by flipping through our pictures since DH is having health issues. We have memories though, lots of good ones. Traveled to Alaska three times, so spent a good deal of the time in Canada. Enjoyed it all.... ok, except when we got caught in a snow storm and there was no water or sewer!

Re: QDC - our Quick-Dry-Cafe ..... come chat!

Installed a new secondary webcam today. Went smoothly.

I recently got a new to me Toyota Corolla to replace the 21 year old Corolla I had. It has all these fancy features that I have to get accustomed to. Emergency auto braking, lane guide, etc.

Mother has asked me to paint some cards for her. Got a bunch of markers and will give it a shot.

Thank you Maureen, but I think it's a case of it is so ongoing, it is not news anymore. Our states beautiful Kangaroo Island is still alight, and with family and property there, yesterday we had temps in 40+ and I spent the day watching the goings on there best I could. ( via brother who is helping there & every available news service)
The army have moved in. They have sent in 6 personnel carrier tanks.. via ferry.
Woke this morning to the smell of smoke. The smoke is filtering in from the island.
Half the island has burnt. predicted 25,000 koalas burnt... sadly
fingers crossed

Idylbrush, sounds lovely your new car with the fancy gadgets.. I hope you really enjoy getting to know your new vehicle.

Have fun painting cards.. sounds great.

Cheers
Merri

Re: QDC - our Quick-Dry-Cafe ..... come chat!

There is nothing nothing to see on Vancouver Island. There are no stunning beaches, no snow-capped mountains, no roaring waterfalls or majestic 1000 year old cedar trees. Nope. Not a one. No castles, no grand hotels, no lush gardens, no vineyards, and certainly no quaint waterside cafés or English pubs. Harry and Meghan did not find anything here when they came at Christmas, and they left saying Vancouver Island "..is a real dump, impossible to get to and full of obnoxious boorish people. We're never coming back to this wretched island..." The ferry is prohibitively expensive, as Sheryl says, and you need a passport and three almost impossible to get visas anyway. So just don't even think about it.

But if you do insist on coming PM me and I will give you a few ideas.

That's a great idea. Handy to Newark airport so they can jet off to see the (great) grannies and grampa Charlie whenever they like.

Howard, congrats on the new car. I hate buying cars. Such a lot of money for mere transportation.

We would be honored to have
Meghan and Harry reside in NJ.....
The only thing they will have to learn is the correct spelling of ‘color’...no useless ‘u’ in it!..
And since neither has a job, they can start collecting ‘welfare’, right away!...

LOL Colin. You are just too funny! There's the Pacific Ocean. I hear the northern half of the island is so wild that tourists are asked not to bring pets due to the number and proximity of the wolves. Sounds interesting.

I do like the wilderness adventures. I'll take the middle of nowhere instead of a big city any day!

Merri, I'm so sorry to hear about the fires and wildlife! That's terrible! We got off easy last summer. The two summers before we lived with smoke everywhere. Much of BC burned 2-3 summers ago. Its an awful thing to see!

It's around -30c here every day lately. I walked today -31c but I have all the outer gear for it. I was quite warm. It does make walking a long way just a bit awkward in all that gear, but its good to get outside regardless. I got some snow reference pics (below). It was sunny, but the sun is barely over the top of the houses at noon this time of year. We don't get a lot of snow, not nearly as much as we had in Ontario on the Great Lakes and the snow here is very dry and light. Easy to shovel or simply push out of the way.

As i mentioned earlier, I'm working on painting more realistic snow.

SherylG - got the shivers looking at your pictures... Just the thought of -30 is horrifying to me.. But your photos are beautiful.
To see snow for me would be a treat.

Cheers
Merri

Re: QDC - our Quick-Dry-Cafe ..... come chat!

You all have me thinking about a "get-a-way". I had a doctor this year tell me I "must" take a week to relax. People do take vacations to my city so why can't I do a stay-cation?

I would like a week at a beach or a lake, maybe a lake- in the woods. Or maybe I just watch On Golden Pond again! Perhaps my book will be finished this year and I'll be an instant billionaire! (Or I have money to eat out!)

When I was in college I took off for Spring Break. I went to Quebec City expecting "Spring". I was SO freaking cold! But it was a great time! I had Daddy's credit cards and I was staying in the Frontenac. I don't remember much more than being very cold and very happy. That's good enough for me!

Re: QDC - our Quick-Dry-Cafe ..... come chat!

"Spring" break in Quebec City would be winter anywhere else. I lived for 10 months in Quebec City. There was snow on the ground well into May. Such a magical city. Definitely a place to see, especially for Canadians as it is kind of like where Canada began.

Magnificent photos, Sheryl. We are expected to get snow on Sunday. I am as excited as a schoolboy. An end to all this rain!
