Never too late ...

Hello to all. My many hobbies have included machine knitting, quilting and karate but I have never really drawn or painted since school aged about 13. I did buy some pastels and a pad about 20 years ago but tucked them away and never tried.
Whilst searching for something else in my sewing room I re-discovered the pastels which are Winsor & Newton, 39 sticks, various colours.
I’ve been lurking on this site for a few weeks looking for advice on how to get started etc. and took the plunge the other day.
My husband likes robins so I found a suitable photo on Unsplash (courtesy A Perry) and had a go. I will upload it soon.
This site is a great resource and everyone is so supportive and I’m looking forward to chatting and sharing with you all.

Re: Never too late ...

Hi, it's nice to meet you.

We don't have a karate forum (but I can wish ) but we do have a fiber arts forum if you still quilt! The pastel forum is a friendly and informative place, if you would like any advice or critiques, simply ask for C&C (comments and critiques) and people will be glad to help out. And if you have any advice or comments to give, please jump right in!

Enjoy the forums and be sure to check out the Member FAQ’s for help navigating the forums and for how to’s on inserting images and such. Let us know if you need any help.

Re: Never too late ...

Hello randomlil - welcome!

If I might make a suggestion ... it would be a good idea to spend a little time with graphite or charcoal alone as it will give you a stronger base for values without adding the complications of color/hue. The Drawing and Sketching forum is a good place to start but we also have a free drawing classroom where you can take whatever classes you might find interesting.

Enjoy the forums!
