GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a subject, concept or idea will be posted in a thread entitled Fantasy Science Fiction Monthly Challenge and Chat. All entries must be new original artworks for this challenge in any style or genre of Fantasy or Science Fiction done in any medium, 2D or 3D.
Join in the discussion about the project – it’s friendly and fun to learn how others are coping/struggling/thriving!!! But no visual images! Help can be gained from asking but also from looking for resource materials elsewhere such as the Reference Image Library or best of all your own wonderful imagination!
A ‘reveal’ date for all is 21th of the month, feel free to post till the end of the month, then a new Challenge will be posted. Please post the finished artwork on this thread at that time.
This months theme is a favorite fictional character, from books, movies or TV.
Have fun!

My DeviantArt GalleryJuly 1, 2019 at 5:14 pm #848963I might actually be able to participate in this one… though Comic Con is this month, and that will basically eat up a week.
My immediate thought was Roland the Gunslinger, but I’m also attracted to the idea of doing Lisbeth Salander as a steampunk character. I might do that if I think i’ll have the time to concept it.

I have about a dozen ideas, but I promise I won’t do Godzilla again, even though he is my true monster love.

https://www.wetcanvas.com/members/98873/media/album/July 5, 2019 at 4:02 am #848968A favourite fictional character. Mine would have to be Buffy Summers. I grew up with her, well I was a bit older than her, but I felt like I did. Amazing character, total reversal of the superhero standard. I think I’d like to draw or paint her in her mature womanhood, confident, relaxed. Maybe in her mid forties. I don’t know where the graphic novels have taken her exactly but see her in an old library in London, back at watcher central maybe, if it even exists anymore. Hitting the books as usual. But with less pressure on her now.
July 5, 2019 at 10:20 pm #848941That sounds amazing! I would love to see that.
Jurassic Park still holds up, we watched it yesterday actually. Those kids were really good actors. I didn’t realize that the boy from JP was in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie until I looked him up out of curiosity. The girl is now a professional artist. She does portraits.

Work, yard work and stuff….but hey I’m actually doing a painting this month!
Almost done with a commission…not my style and I have been dragging my feet. So as soon as that is done I will be doing….drum roll…you guessed it another Robin Hobb inspired artwork.

After all that rain, we know have sun and heat and my garden has exploded. Fortunately the rabbits are helping out by digging large holes everywhere.
I am working on this tonight while I watch TV. Went to a flea market today so I am tuckered out.

Find me on FacebookJuly 14, 2019 at 10:44 am #848955I actually have an outline done for this. Thinking about trying coloured pencil, which I have very little experience with, on black paper. Been watching YouTube to build up some courage lol.
And trying to keep up with yard work. We could use some rain but the weeds don’t seem to mind the dryness. It’s hard to drag myself out into the heat.
C&C always welcome. Michelle

Every painting is a new adventure.July 15, 2019 at 3:59 pm #848944I love using black paper!
We went from extreme cold to rain and flooding and now to extreme heat. I have a few plants that are doing really well, like my zucchini but the rest of my garden is a mess!

Find me on FacebookJuly 16, 2019 at 3:27 pm #848956It’s been so dry here I haven’t cut the grass in 2 weeks. We could use a little more rain, but the weather likes to go to extremes, doesn’t it?

Every painting is a new adventure.July 16, 2019 at 9:51 pm #848945I got three huge zucchinis today. I’m going to have to freeze them though I have one of those spiralizers so I might make muffins tomorrow. I make them and then freeze them so we all only get one a day each.
I just realized that my entry might not be right for this challenge but I had another idea that I like even better so I’m working on that now.

Find me on FacebookJuly 17, 2019 at 10:08 am #848957What do you like using on black paper Virginia? I have Strathmore Artagain which I think is just for dry media. And I just have Prismacolor Scholars but they did ok. I think I’m done though I could probably keep fiddling with it.
I’ve been feeling so tempted to try pastel pencils. Soft pastels kind seem like a dry form of paint with the way they layer.

Every painting is a new adventure.July 17, 2019 at 1:39 pm #848946I like the contrast it makes. Plus when I first started, I never drew or painted using enough of the medium whether it was pastels or paint and everything ended up too light. The dark background forced me to use enough paint and get out of the habit of being skimpy with it.
I sometimes use lighter sienna or umber or some medium grey tone backgrounds but unless I’m doing an ink or watercolor I never use white.
