Hank

12"x12" box canvas
Lamp Black, Paynes Grey, Titanium White

Not posted for a while but I thought I'd throw this up here for C&C. I've been experimenting with colour and non-portraits and very unsuccessful it has been. Therefore, back to b&w portraits.

I don't do hero worship but as a Punk in the DIY music community, Hank here, is as inspirational as it gets. This is the guy whose words in one paragraph of one of his autobiographical diaries got me off my backside and doing what I said I wanted to do - with zero knowledge of the process I started a record label.... 20 years old this October and still at it... a learning curve just like this painting malarkey!

Re: Hank

I feel a lot of intensity in this one. The expressive face you modeled is part of it, but of course the high-contrast monochrome works that way as well. You've really let the texture of the canvas work for you.

Re: Hank

Thank you Don.
It was an interesting reference photo that I was working from. A lot of sharp focus contrasting with soft focus on the background and outer face. Hard edges but still with soft focus.

Re: Hank

Filling the canvas with face really concentrates the viewer on the intensity of the expression...... good work.

Re: Hank

Nice contemporary look to the portrait. Interesting story and congrats on the recording label, hope it's holding its own.
