WIP: Surreal Jellyfish Monster...

So here's something I've been working on (and have posted at various stages in other discussions) I really don't know where this one came from, but I'm pretty damn happy with it. It's difficult to see the details from here (It's a 6 x 4 ft. canvas) but I was playing with the similarities between space and the sea, and with transforming real living objects into non-living ones (I tried to make the jellyfish seem like it was made out of cloth/ribbon/string. There's a needle and thread poking out of its dome.) What do you guys think? What makes a successful surreal painting? Am I on the right track? C&C always welcome!

Wow that's huge!
It is very colorful and an interesting concept.
Even though you mentioned it I do not see the needle and thread, I do see the stitching and the various types of tendrils hanging down, and the spool of green thread.
I really like it and think it is very fun and playful.
It also has the look of a children's book illustration, which is a very good thing.

Very nicely done and the idea behind it is very creative. Yes, I would call it a successful painting.

Interesting and clever concept. It took me a minute to realize it is made of cloth.

It's charming, I too think it would be a great illustration in a children's book.

Re: WIP: Surreal Jellyfish Monster...

Thanks guys! I'm glad people like it. And for the person who asked; the needle and thread are really tiny, but they're on the bottom left-hand part of the jellyfishes dome. I have such a hard time resizing my process photos for the board that It might be a little blurry, but this is what we're looking at:
