Also of interest might be a book found by Katwalk -

a book I read earlier this year about the History of paper, it is

Paper, Paging Through History by Mark Kurlansky,

he traces the history of writing, the need for it and record keeping and links it to the history of paper both in the far East and in Europe, and then in America. It is a fairly easy read and full of fun tidbits. He also touches on Parchment and its development. Check your local library
