Such beautiful work in here! Would anyone care to point me in the right direction as to HOW to paint like the works shown here? I love what you're doing, Brian!

The bright colour schemes of your latest pieces feel very cheerful in emotion. My personal favourite is the one with the goose!

Thanks. I also think the goose one is the best, but then, it is quite a bit larger and took more time. The others are more post-goose fun pieces. :-)

Thanks!

How I do it? I imagine a picture and then paint it. Well, that's the short answers. :-)

You'd have to be more specific... :-)

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Brian, the forum is in the Classical forum, so I'm thinking it's supposed to be paintings in the classical style. I'm confused as to what this forum is for, exactly, and what the parent (Classical) forum is for. None of my paintings resemble the styles shown in here, so it makes me wonder if it would be inappropriate for me to post here. Hopefully someone can explain this part of WC to me.

I think it was originally supposed to be for art in classical style, but that hasn't been the case for many years now. The parent forum seem to me to be more strictly for classical work, but here in the "current projects" part I would think anything goes. I don't know if there even is a moderator here who controls what kind of art is posted.

So I would suggest to you to feel free to post your work here, whatever style it is in.

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Here's a watercolour portrait for the faces project. Its from a reference in the RIL.

As to the question about posting artwork in this forum....

We have a very loose definition in the projects arena...as Brian says, more or less any style and any subject goes here.

For the main forum, it should be art in a classical style.

In the projects area, we think of things as exploring art history which means ALL styles welcome.

We haven't had many HOW To DO IT projects here though. But if anyone wants to teach a particular style, they would be very welcome to host a project in this area!!

June: I like the portrait; you captured the light very nicely.

My latest attempt - a bit better than my previous, I think, but I'd leave that to others to judge... ;-)

Acrylic on board, 20 x 25 cm (about 8 x 10 inch).

Beautiful cat amongst the irises, Brian! Just how cats go about in the flower gardens at night. I like this contemporary style!

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

I seem to be in a cat phase; this one was for a project over at the miniature forum:

My first attempt looked horrible, so I covered it up in a layer of white and redid it in a completely different style, which I think worked better.

Acrylic on canvas board, 6 x 4 inch.

Lovely ginger cat, Brian. Looks like a ginger cat I had many years ago, called Timithy. who was a gorgeous long-haired ginger tabby.

Re: cafe michelangelo- september 2016

Some catch up for the 29 faces project I joined during September. These are the last 2 faces....28 and 29, and are drawn from a small figurine I have in my studio.

The figurine is a seated Japanese lady which I got at the flea market for around £6.
