My Poppy (and first post!)

Hi everyone! I wanted to share 2 pieces I recently "finished". Its in little quotes because hopfully some feedback I recieve here will let me know if I need to go back or leave as is. I've done 2 representations of the same photo. A poppy in front of a palm frond. The first was completed in prismacolor preimer pencils and the second in acrylic on 16x20 wrapped canvas. Please, any and all feedback and comments are greatly appreciated! Thank you for looking/reading. To see some of my other work check out my blog: http://theinterruptedartist.blogspot.com/

Re: My Poppy (and first post!)

Hi and Welcome...

Love poppies and these are wonderful! Interesting background on the pencil one and I think your color has a bit more pop to it, you did very well with the choice of colors on both but your definition on the acrylic (the second one) could perhaps use some deeper tones...both good, just me I prefer the feel of the first more.

Hello and welcome to WetCanvas! I agree with Elaine's comments and also prefer the first version probably since it has more depth and value range. Your composition is extremely nice!!!

Re: My Poppy (and first post!)

Welcome to WC and to the forum.

LIke the others, I prefer #1 because of the depth of colour and tonal contrast.
The acrylic seems unfinished, and being acrylic could easily be developed to the same standard with stronger colour and tones and some detail.

Re: My Poppy (and first post!)

Thank you for all your great comments! I am in 100% agreement, I thought the the acrylic needed more. It's nice to have my judgment validated. Again, thanks for taking the time to take a look. Greatly appreciate it!

SoftRoses- Thank you so much for visiting my blog! A number of people liked my tulips, and I was on the fence about them. Maybe there're nicer than I give them credit for

I like the 2nd one. I know what everyones saying but the second one to me has a softer feel to it. If you had just posted that one alone, then it wouldn't be compared to the 1st. just my opinion.
