It’s been a long time since I posted anything,
so here’s a bunch of stuff at once.

I’ve had a few house portrait comissions.

This first one is my favorite.
I was working mostly from a couple of old (30 years old) photos,
with trees and shadows obscuring details.
I took some photos myself in order to figure out the architecture,
then had to figure out how to reconfigure the trees both to make it more like how it looked 30 years ago,
and make more of the house visible.
It was a challenge to get it all set up,
and I had a hard time trying to figure out how I wanted the light to fall on the house…but I ended up very happy with the result!

        A detail:

        A church in Michigan:

A house in the Cherokee Triangle area of Louisville:

        Another house:

Whitehall Historic Home, which is where I was married (not a commission, I did this on my own) (the ink is brown, but some weird discoloration crept into these digital images when I formatted them. It’s not there in the original drawing):

        detail:

And here are a couple of the pumpkins I worked on for a huge Halloween show last October. These were done with alcohol ink and Sharpie markers, then carving tools were used to scrape away parts of the pumpkin skin:

The pumpkins are fun. They don’t last long…but on the other hand, thousands of people saw them!

They are all excellent! I like the last one best!

Beautiful drawings with a really lovely range of marks and tones. Lovely to see them all.
(BTW, one is repeated so if you upload the correct image I’ll edit the post and include it!:))

Those pumpkins are novel! Looks like fun to make them too!

            Cheers, Maureen

                Thank you!

(And — weird, I don’t see any duplicate images. ..?)

OK, now that’s REALLY weird — I do see the duplicate image now. I am 100% sure that it changed. Well, OK, 99% sure. But I feel certain that after your post I looked at it, and the images were correct. I carefully scrolled through and inspected–three times! Must be art espionage hackers at work!

This should be the image, that I no longer see above:

Maybe I really did just keep mentally “hiccupping” as I looked at it because the image is so similar the other house.

What a stunning collection this is! Your trees and other foliage are superb. I particularly like the way you handled the Corinthian columns in the Whitehall Historic Home – in pre-historic times, when I was in art school, I remember Architecture 101 with Roman and Greek buildings. Drove me nuts! Not only did we have to draw the damn things and the whole building with steps, we had to cast an imaginary shadow down them. Happy days.

Mark, that’s really weird because the two images in tge first post are different now:eek:
Whrn I wrote earlier I was using the desktop so could compare easily , now I’m on the tablet and it’s changed …. I’ll check tomorrow again!

Have you uploaded from an ipad when you did the latest upload? ….. that would explain because ipads only allow one image per 24 hours and any further ones supplant the one earlier.

                    Cheers, Maureen

I used a Dell laptop. And now the original post does have two different (correct) images.

It might be somebody messing with the time-space continuum. It happens. Some of us are better at perceiving it than others due to alien implants in our frontal cortexes.

The pumpkins are far out! I like the Whitehall drawing the best.

Yeah, trying to figure out how to render the caps of the columns was challenging. The drawing was just big enough to put in some detail, but just small enough that it was really hard to get in the shapes without turning them into blobs. It required more concentration and forethought than did drawing all that foliage!

Thank you! I guess that’s actually my favorite, because I commissioned it from myself. :)
