“The Morning Crew” (More Birds, Sort Of)

Hi, folks. It’s been a while but I got out the ink again to draw this scene I photographed while walking the other morning. It seemed to just shout “pen and ink!”

It’s about 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches on Stonehenge paper. I used Tachikawa 77 and Hunt 99 nibs with Speedball Super Black ink.

Constructive criticism is always appreciated.

Ah ! lovely , a little easily over lookable scene caught very well.
You'll note "very well" instead of perfectly, only because of the off vertical of the pole.
Still I'll forgive that immediately & just enjoy it, you have an excellent eye for a picture.
Mike

Thanks, Mike. Ah, the risk of drawing from life... That pole, like many others in the area really is both crooked and leaning, but still functional. Ha! Ha! Some are bowed or crooked due to their natural growth or drying and bowing with age. Many lean as a result of storms past. They’re slowly replacing them with steel poles that are superior, I’m sure, but cold and sterile to my drawing eye.

I think this is a lovely, unusual, subject and drawing Herb ... very nicely done .... and I like the quirky pole!! Tricky perspective to the cross beams too!

A well-solved composition in black and white. Love the title!

good one... you should see my morning crew - like a scene from The Birds - lol... but, then, I toss birdseed out on the driveway each morn, so that explains the crowd...

That's funny about the crooked poles, my power was off most of yesterday due to one falling. Still, you're right, I prefer the wooden ones to steel. There's one by my grocery store that has a really interesting pattern on it.

I like your drawing. I love seeing the birds line up like that. Nice shading on the pole.

Nicely done. I was going to comment on the title and pole shading but why repeat what llawrence and vmrs posted? As to the leaning pole, I’m trying to remember when I last saw a perfectly vertical one; I believe I saw one a couple of months ago (but I may have been leaning myself...).

Again, nice work.
