Haarlem Outdoor sketches

First sketch is a cross post from Scavenger Hunt's 'Old' topic.

1.

I had this on my 'wanna draw that!' list for a long time. This is Brederode Castle, 10 minutes drive from my home. Its first part was built in around 1250 AD. For your perspective: that's ± 240 years before Columbus landed in the Americas. So Brederode is 'old'
What you see here is from around 1300 AD. I love the place and I visit it a couple of times a year. You can climb to the top and have a great view.

Ayway, I started doing a fountain pen drawing first from another angle. I didn't like it much, it's too hard. I'm a sucker for the subtlety of pencil I guess. So then I did this one. 1,5 hour in an A5 moleskine.

2.

This one I did also today, while I waited for my wife to finish her workshop. The mill is the Adriaan, in Haarlem City Center. Sketch took about 45 minutes.
