Red face Re: May Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! May 2018

Well, I'm not a Mom, but we spent the afternoon with my Mom. Took her to lunch at a nice restaurant that Bill had thoughtfully made reservations at back in January I think, and I would have been like, "Hey, today is Mother's Day. Think I should have done something?". He never forgets anniversaries or holidays, curse him One good thing, her neighbor, who draws in pastels came over when she saw his truck, and we had a nice session with her teaching me about dry pastels. I might even have gotten another entry in this month's Challenge out of it! We'll see!

Oh, um, Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's day to you, Sweetie, and to all those ladies who, through no fault of their own, will never be mothers.

Re: May Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! May 2018

A belated happy Mother's day. We went out for breakfast and then I basically relaxed all day. Saw my mom and all she wants is a ride or two to the greenhouse. This also covers her birthday next month.

That sounds like a nice time Susie. I have some soft pastel blocks because you can use them with polymer clay but I've also been curious about drawing with them. Might use some of my birthday money to get the pencils.

Happy Belated Mother's Day to all!
I have been so super busy Graduation season and Mothers day plus all the regular birthdays, retirements, anniversaries and stuff.
I have gotten so many cakes done and record numbers of them.
In the last two weekends I have made over 20 two tier cakes, dozens of full sheet cakes and hundreds of regular cakes.
I can't wait for this to be over and on to June Wedding month, a few Bridezillas beats the multitudes!

Susie I started in soft pastels and still have a soft spot for them.
I just wanted a change up and also they always have to be matted and framed under glass and that can get expensive.

Yeah. I have noticed (and how!) that they are smeary. Course, it doesn't matter much to me, cause Bill just sprays them with "workable fixative" and hangs them on the main fridge door with magnets, so cool, reminding me of when I was a kid. I like them because I get true, bright colors right away and don't have to add laborious layers like Bill with his colored pencils.
He has one pastel, hanging in the living room, a portrait of a grinning redhead, framed, matted and glazed, like you said. I asked him how he kept from smearing, and he said that he filled the whole space and doesn't leave a lot of white like I do. Duh!

And that is why, and that is why, I don't use pastels. They make a mess, worse than paint, IMHO. But, De gustibus est non disputandum, right?

Cake, yumm! I imagine this must be a crazy time of year for you!

When I was in college, we used tissue paper and would tape it on the back and flip it over the front of our pastels to keep them smear free while they were in our portfolios. It works well, if they're somewhere where they arne't being moved much.

I have a love hate relationship with pastels. I always have them though because I use them to draw on canvases and I draw my embroidery patterns on linen with them too.

I'm waiting for this month to hurry up, I'm quite pleased with my landscape.

Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Re: May Fantasy and Sci-Fi Art Monthly Challenge and Chat! May 2018

Well, I'm almost finished with "Mother Nature" the title to this month's challenge of "nature" and, as usual, I bit off more than I could chew, but I'll be masticating (I said masticating....) all weekend for this Monday's reveal.

One of my happy experiences with "nature" in a far out way was illustrating the monster from the short horror film, THE BIRCH a few months ago and posting it around. When I saw the short film I fell in love with the look of her....she's a beauty!

Oh well, that was then....this is now.

I have been spending too much time on my entry for acrylics, 21 days for a Vermeer, that's a bit tight for me.

My original one for here is not coming out as I would like, I might end up doing something else.

Woody, she is lovely except maybe for the need for some orthodontia.

I am done with mine. Susie doesn't like it, but, well, we'll see.

That's a great illustration, I watched it on youtube, she's pretty freaky but weirdly comforting too.

Her bark is worse than her bite...grrrrrrroaaaannnn
