CaliAnn, your finch is so beautiful! The yellows really pop. I love the softness of your edges...the way the twig and the tail feathers ebb into the background is wonderful!

Re: June Monthly Challenge - Welcome to All!

I had some time today, so practiced my pastels for the paint out in New Mexico in July. I did the house and added the mountains in my home town in New Mexico where I took the photo.

Old Timer
Pastel on Pastelbord, 12 x 12 inches
Assorted pastels about 2 and a half hours

Beautiful, Jo, the house is nestled in amongst the trees so cozy. Where is your hometown?

Jo, I love this! It's visually striking with the stark white in the middle of those cool blues and violets. Love the yellow pop too. So nicely done! I love it!

Re: June Monthly Challenge - Welcome to All!

Jo: I like your take on the "house scene" ... wonderful colors - The Yellow against the Violets really sets it off ... pulls the viewer in along with the White cloud ...

Interesting ... this is the same scene I started last night -

Re: June Monthly Challenge - Welcome to All!

Kay, thanks. Hometown is Magdalena, New Mexico. Not much there now.

Jenna, thank you. I do love color.

Christel, thank you so much.

Hud, thanks. Looking forward to your take on the house. I really like those old New Mexico houses. You see I added the blue window and took off the boards. May do it again with the boards sometime.

CaliAnn, Thanks.

Re: June Monthly Challenge - Welcome to All!

My take on the New Mexico House -

If the colors seem strange ... they are - I am trying to use up old tubes of paint that I have had since the 1960s and 1970s - I know it looks odd, but I had fun -

Oil on canvas glued to hardboard, 8 x 10; Palette: Cadmium Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Violet, Winsor Green, Manganese Blue,Titanium Buff and Titanium White

Comments and suggestions always welcome -

Thank you for viewing - Hud
