Two more in the abstract landscape series. Both are 40 x 40 cm. I am not too sure about the second one it seems very dark at the bottom and the design maybe needs to be more varied. I quite like the top one, as it works well in a frame that is pale cream/ivory. However I can still see room for great improvement in both! Going to put aside a little time this week to get working on this series a bit more. Comments are welcome, thank you for looking. Caroline :)

I like the vertical elements near the bottom in the second. I like the variety of marks. Gary

I like both of them Caroline. The first one is my favorite because of the directional movement and color harmony…

Both are so alive with color and movement. The 1st is my favorite, the 2nd one I agree there is perhaps a bit too much darkness thru the mid-ground. Wonderful work Caroline!

Fun paintings to gaze upon Caroline. Especially love the color and energy in the first.

Caroline – A wonderful combination of abstract shapes, textured strokes & color statements – The 1st is my favorite as I particularly like that stroke of blue in the upper sky which perfectly balances the action below – Super !

These are both lovely Caroline – but I am very drawn to that second one. You’re right, it is dark, but not in the sense of color, but mood. When I look at it, I instantly think of our crazy and scary California wild fires That orangey color is very much what the fires look like through the thick haze of smoke. the darker colors look like burned buildings and brush and the other colors look like items that were simply left standing that the fire, for whatever reason, didn’t touch. I find this to be chillingly realistic. I am probably way off on what your intentions might have been, or where you were going with it – but that is what I see and feel when I look at it. It is awesome

It’s such a treat to see the results of your latest work, Caroline. I admire the sense of confidence and freedom with which you create these stunning land/sky/seascapes. I notice how the big sweep of white cloud in the first one carries a definite sense of motion as if moves over the smaller, subordinate shapes. The second one seems unsettled and now that CaliAnn mentions smoke and fire I see that too!

Hi Gary, I am still not sure about the intense blacks in this one but the verticals do add interest! many thanks for your comment.

Thank you Wes, I think there is a bit to look at in this one and the colours are quite nice together. Mind you, the more I look at it the more I can see to improve on it!

Thank you so much Lisa! your comment has made my day!

Many thanks Derek, those are encouraging words, much appreciated!

Hi Richard thank you for your wise words, I wonder if I could perhaps lightened the darks, I did try a lighter grey. It might end up changing the whole painting!

Many thanks Heather, there are fun to create too!

Hello Michael, the blue you speak of is quite purple! I guess our computer monitors are a little different. Many thanks for your nice comment, much appreciated.

Gosh Ann I had no idea the painting would remind you of so dramatic a thing as the fires! I hope the painting did not unsettle you. These fires are so awful many poor animals die, and many folk have their homes destroyed. I assure you I was thinking of a harbour at the time!

Hi Donna, it is quite difficult to get a good photo of the paintings, the white cloud you speak of is a little more subtle in reality almost slightly cream. I do have to let myself be expressive when painting this series, no planning just paint! Thank you so much for your comment. Maybe I will try and make the bottom painting less dark!

Carolyn, I wasn’t unsettled, more like startled! Unfortunately, we are too familiar here with the fires, our most important stuff (documents, sentimental items, photos, etc us) still sits in boxes because it happens way too frequently. We can literally evacuate within 15 minutes – sad huh? When we retire, we will be moving away from this area – until then, we live with it. I really hope you don’t touch that painting – to me, it’s brilliant, as is.

Two wonderful works Caroline. I especially love the first, with amazing clouds. I like the second too: it looks very different from the kind of abstract you usually post. To me it evokes a sense of chaos and disorder, but in a good way!
