Lovely textured landscape
Working with such paper calls for solvents

ooo, I kind of like that texture, Sarah! Definitely not for every scene, but it looks neat here. I agree with Christel, some turp and a brush would get all that OP into the crevices if you'd felt like it.

But sometimes it's fun to let the texture flag fly!

Wonderful work Christel with dove and cat. Background is great. Love that red and black theme!

I think you did a good job Lisa. Nice movement in the sky, and the texture in the foreground. Is this on clairefontaine pastelmat?

Re: February 2019 Oil Pastel Challenge and Chat!

Lisa, I think you're doing just fine for being so new to oil pastels. I love your bare trees! I agree with Rich about the nice movement in the sky.

And - I learned something! I was not aware that Clairefontaine made a multi-or mixed-media type paper. Even though OP's are on their list of good media for it, sometimes multi-media paper shows its limits! You still pulled off a nice painting, but you might have had to work too hard with blending, etc.

Thanks for hosting Sarah. Photos are beautiful, and I just had to go for one of the foggy scenes. 12x16 on pastelmat. Senns, mungyos, neopastels.

Beautiful, Rich! I'm really loving the branches against that orange sky. The whole painting has a nice lush feel to it, despite the bareness of the trees.

Re: February 2019 Oil Pastel Challenge and Chat!

Good morning everyone! It's a very British morning here today, grey and drizzly.

Considering your surface you've done really well, lisaastrup. Clairefontaine multi is a very difficult surface for oil pastels! You might have a much easier job using Clairefontaine Pastelmat instead, or another kind of sanded paper. Oil pastels are very picky about their sufaces. I think your foreground could do with some more texture like the little strokes at the base of the trees, going for marks rather than blending works well on surfaces such as the Clairefontaine multi. You could add more trees as well.

Lovely painting, raizes! I thought of you when I took that photograph

It looks great! Though the strokes are random at the first glance, they are all thought-out because they fall into united picture. Well done!
