Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

Thanks, EP!

I went to the Patchogue St. Patrick's Day Parade and sketched a bit of what I saw there.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

The NYC Urban sketchers visited the Brooklyn Flea Market/Smorgasburg.

I started with a sketch of the creative corner they had set up for the kids...and some adults too. lol Then I sketched the lady and the Ring Ding Store booth. She had so many varieties but I had to resist. Still sitting at the same table I turned and sketched the bar area.

I didn't get to sketch any of the flea market vendors. Instead I sketched the C Bao booth...I even had lunch from there. I loved the view with the Peking Ducks hanging there and the workers behind the counter. I even included my friend, Jeff who was sitting at the counter sketching the activity too.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

Last Sunday I drove out to Hampton Bays and found this cute building with an old fashioned gas pump. I sat in my mobile studio on the side of the road to sketch.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

Just catching up on these threads and really enjoyed looking at your work from this year so far. Great variety to look through. The landscapes are particularly inspiring for me - I love the gouache snow scenes and the coastal studies.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

Thanks for your comments everyone! I am behind posting again because I was off traveling for a month.

These two were done locally, one down by the dock in Sayville and the other from my car parked in the rain in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot. lol No...I didn't go inside.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

My friend's daughter's school has a team that takes part in the robotics competitions. They were in a big one at an arena locally so I went to sketch a bit of it. The theme this year was Space.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

For a lot of March we had wet weather so I was sketching from my car a bit...like this house. The crocuses were done in my friend's yard on one of the few sunny days we had.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

Right before I left on my trip I caught an exhibit of fashions from old time Hollywood. Some of the costumes were originals but a few were copies (like the green curtain dress worn by Scarlett in "Gone With the Wind"). I had a little time to do a few sketches. The first is an outfit worn by Doris Day. The other two are from "Gone With the Wind" which is probably my all time favorite movie. The red dress is a ball gown that Scarlett wore and the tux that Rhett wore in the movie.

Re: Joan's Sketches from 2019

I sketched near Lincoln Center with the NYC Urban Sketchers right before I left. I did a sketch of their famous fountain. Then after lunch I sketched in the farmer's market across the street. As usual after show and tell we went for drinks and I had the chance to sketch a few of the people at the table. They were all busy sketching too.
