Great stuff folks. Yes, this certainly reminds one of the "old days" here.

Well done to all.

Clever and expertly done, Lorell.

I had another go at it, this time trying for a "painterly" look.

Re: Digital Manipulation Challenge XIII, Carland Elevator

Good one Rich; the snow looks realistic, and nice job creating the light of the oncoming train.

Another one from me, processed in the wee hours this morning...

Thanks for starting this thread, Lorell. BTW - you posted something about your "mediocre" source images. Boy, were you wrong! IMO they're excellent images to play around with. And judging by the variety of quality manips others have posted, I'm not the only one who thinks that.

Wow. Such beautiful artwork. I love this thread. :-) Mr. Beloved and I had planned to see a local train, today, so we did and I got a lot of nice photos. After processing, I will make a thread in the shutterbug pub forum, later. Maybe I will have one to donate for digital manipulation. Lorell, maybe you can tell me how to do that. Or if I am allowed to do that. LOL!

Re: Digital Manipulation Challenge XIII, Carland Elevator

You are all inspiring.

I wish you could have been there today with me. You would have had the time of your life. We stopped at five different spots to take photographs of the train. I did bring you back all something, but you'll have to wait to tomorrow to get it as I have not uploaded the photos yet. .

In the meant time, here is what it is like to watch the "Train A Coming".
Really, we are that close to the track.
Turn up the sound and put your hand near your speakers so that you feel the vibrations. That is what we feel coming from the ground from our toes to our nose.

Very nifty! Thanks! It was much more exciting than our train, today. Ours is dead and never moves. LOL! I loved the sounds and the smoke. :-)

Re: Digital Manipulation Challenge XIII, Carland Elevator

Dave,
Your last rendition is a good one with the teal and red accents, just enough color to catch one's eye and liven up the composition. I also like the black outlines on the edges of the building and trees. It works so well to highlight the character in the trees and make the building pop.

Rich,
You talk about an imagination. You don't have to see the train, the flared light is enough to bring excitement to this snowy scene. Snow falling, what an awesome idea and expertly applied. You also changed daylight to the blue hour, so cool. All of your elements really made for a super composition.

One more, this time attempting to simulate an old, sepia, and somewhat deteriorated photo...

Thanks Lorell, you made my day! Coming from you that is high praise!

A few hours after I posted I thought I should have change the lettering on the sign to say Polar Express.

Dave, perfectly executed. I see many like that at our Historical Society Archives.

Yes, Dave, that looks so authentically OLD.

WOW!! I am so impressed with all of the manipulations! Everyone has done such a great job. I have not done a whole lot, but played a little. I see I need to step up my efforts!!

Re: Digital Manipulation Challenge XIII, Carland Elevator

Well, Natalie, your post was my reward....huh?
Yep, I wouldn't let myself open this thread until I finished my work of getting the new challenges started in the Daily and in the Darkroom for the last two weeks of November. I am really feeling calm now because I like taking the month of December off from challenges to give everyone a break (including myself).

"Well, was it worth the wait", you ask? You betcha! I just knew you would be making me smile when I opened your manipulation, though I thought I might see a cow crossing the tracks! Good one, Natalie. You know what makes it perfect? The shadow under the truck, just wait till Rich sees it.
