Oil pastel chat and challenge thread for May 2018

I've chosen the next few references from the RIL. Feel free to crop, change hue, values and whichever you feel like changing, explaining why you did the changes.

Re: Oil pastel chat and challenge thread for May 2018

I tried out a new set of OPs for this. Not brilliant, although they do have interesting colours. I am not sure if I should try go over the drawing with better pastels. The paper won't take very many layers of OP, though it is nice for blending. Otherwise, I might just try to blend it.

Great start, Isobel. Blend first, then see if you need more op on top of that layer. If you let it set overnight, you can add more oil pastel.

Great photos Christel. I see a few here I will give a go a little later in the month.

This is a good start isobel. I think if you blend it in, use a fix or let it setup for awhile, you will get more layers.

Nice start, Isobel, it's always fun to experiment with new ops! I like your palette here. I agree with you to just focus on blending these new op's and see how they work for you.

Not my usual subject choice. The car's left front tire doesn't look quite right. A4

I fixed the tire

Hee hee, I quite like your car, Christel! I agree that the front tire looks like it would give a bit of a bumpy ride. A little rounding out the sides should help. The palette is lovely! Shadows look great.

Thanks Terri. I think the tire will run smoother now.

ooo! The lavender background is a perfect backdrop against all this yellow-green. Looks fantastic!

This is a beautiful seascape, Christel - you did a fantastic job with the wave. I'm very impressed with your rocks, too. Terrific!

I agree it's been a rather quiet month so far. I just posted a piece I finished but I've been working slow lately. I think Rich has been ill. Also, in the northern hemisphere it's getting to be summertime, and it could be folks are taking vacations!

Christel,
Loved your details of the car, specially the tire rims. I also like your modified background.
