Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for February 2018

Wow, Raj - every bit that you added has made it a better painting. I love the colors and brightness, and such attention to the details. The water and grasses look terrific. Great work!

Great work on the changes here, Isobel. The work you did on the mountains, plus the texture you added to the grass really helps. Nice work!

Everyone has been very busy so far this month. Nice to see all these interpretations!

Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for February 2018

Rich and Christel - Thanks for the comments. I agree with them. I did it quickly and i can see the things that i should have done.

Rich - I paid close attention to your recent tutorial and one of the tips that really helped me was to work from a small picture. I painted it standing up about 5 feet from my computer with the picture on it so i was unable to see the details and that helped lots to keep me from getting bogged down in detail. Thanks.

Christel,
It is beautiful. The textures of feathers were done really well. Did you have to use any colored pencils or just the edges of the OPs?

Thanks Ed. I’m glad it helped

Re: Oil pastel challenge and chat for February 2018

Thanks Rich and Raj! I had to go over a second time to blacken the feathers a bit more. I often use oil based cp or Dermatograph but this time I used my black wax crayon

Beautiful job on the nuthatch, Christel! The feathers look terrific. Ah, that handy black wax crayon is there again when you need it.

My take on the old boat. 12x16 inches. Had fun with it!

This is beautiful. I like your choice of colors for the rocky shore.
